Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Anyone else working 12-14 hour days

Re org number 4 and moved to a new group with huge project. Not familiar with half the ask. Need to learn most of it but it’s too much in a day so having to work 12-14 hours to just keep the ba--s in the air. Not sure how long I can sustain this on no sleep and all the stress. I know I’m not the only one who this happened to. Expectation is for me to know it but not the same role as I was hired for. Analyst asked to do dev work as part of the job now.

Hail no. My commute time is now apart of the 40 hour work week. Btw virtual desktop su-ks @$$ and if there ever was a reason to quit, VD is pushing it for me…

When my India partners have like 3 hours of work a day? No way! I work about 6 hrs a day. I did my time doing 50-60 hrs. a week and got nothing for it so I found a work life balance for me.

I gave my heart and soul to this company for decades. On Tuesday I was thrown out like trash via a teams call with dozens of others by a jerk reading a script. Senior management doesn’t care. The environment is THE most toxic I have seen my entire career. Good luck to you.

Used to work that much, on the regular for many many years.

Now I do 40, take an actual lunch and track all my time (amount spent on each thing every day) to evidence for myself.

If you can’t get it done in 40, then proactively talk to your manager and share what you did in 40 (don’t say or reference 40 hrs) and ask what they want you to prioritize. Also prepare your own priority plan with timelines. Some managers don’t realize all that goes into getting things done. Some assume you already know XYZ or they don’t know that today there’s a lot of research or layers or red tape that happens. Sometimes they want you to cut out some of what you’re doing after you both understand what’s reasonable.

Do NOT position yourself as “I can’t get it done” but here’s what I did and what I can do based on XYZ. Now that you have a more solid understanding of the ask, I can do this by then, etc…

One additional thing to know is that most managers will not pull you back from working all these extra hours if you are producing good results. You likely won’t reach a pinnacle of now I can do 40 once 50-60 is your norm. Your reward will be more work.

This (60 hrs)was me for a long time. I don’t regret it but things are different for me now and I have zero heartburn about only 40. You’ll need to decide what works for you.

I used to do the analyst, the architecture, and the data modeler work (dba) as part of the "dev" job. I think the facilitators think the bank already employs the "low code"/no-code/ ai generated systems before such environments exist. Oh and of course they can always get an Indian/Filipino to fill your position.

I used to work 50-55 hours as "the norm". Now I probably do 45, but drive around more for no reason. FHY.
