Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

RTO

I'm within commutable distance to a specialty market, when will I be forced to return to office? I've been 100% remote for 5yrs.

So you will get a severance if you are in a non core location and can’t RTO?

Layoffs target remote workers.

Location is going to be a deciding factor in 2024 retention. Prepare for a blood bath. It su-ks, but prep yourself for RTO or a package. RTO is ez if you do it right.

What locations are having capacity issues? Any time someone in the office is sharing, the offices look empty.

I'm under 30 miles aways but I think they are having capacity issues.

if you are 40mi+ away from a core or specialty site for your business unit now, and dont RTO, then you run a higher risk of being laid off in the future when they do non core displacements. you still have a risk regardless if you are 40+ but its far less if you are already rto'ed to an office

Some locations are at capacity. You might still get to coast for another year or so if you’re lucky.

Thanks, for now the group is still hiring so there is no reduction. They did backfill some positions in core hubs of people that were not remote and not in core or specialty markets.

If a group is told to reduce headcount to improve efficiency, they can use non-medical remote status as a criterion irrespective of whether you are within a commutable distance. They are under no obligation to give you a chance to RTO first.

yes, you will be told you have to go into the office.

when you are told that depends on what OC you are in and whether there is seating immediately available. CSBB has already announced that people will be told in Feb and will be expected to be fully compliant within 60 days from notice.

All remote work is going away unless there is a medical accommodation and you are within 40 miles of a go-forward location.

@pkd+1qTuniaC - it's a tough call for sure. I would imagine I would be forced back into an office before being laid off as I'm within range to the specialty hub. I would prefer to keep my job vs being laid off though. A part of my team is still remote as well, some in core hubs, some in speciality hubs, and some are already RTO. I would like to assume I'll be told to RTO before I was offered severance though.

I was WFH for over 20 years and I had to come into an office. Length of service isn't factored in. (as far as I know anyway.) I'm not in a core location. I guess it could be considered a specialty location.

There were a number of people who "fell through the cracks" when the first RTO mandates came through. It feels like (just my opinion-nothing concrete to back it up) that WF is going to do another "pass" to see who may have been missed the first round.

With all the discussion regarding displacing remote people, depending on whether you want to stay or want to be displaced, it could be considered risky to remain WFH when there is an office to go into. Do you go in now and get yourself off the "remote" list? Or do you keep WFH and if you end up on a "remote people displacement list" hope they allow you to get off the list by going into the office? (Which they might not allow depending on the type of location it is.) Without knowing what WF will do in that situation makes it difficult to decide.

You slipped through the cracks.
Keep quiet and enjoy WFH

@jpq+1qTuniaC - Were you forced to return to a core market or specialty market?

It really depends on your leaders and if they enforce your return to office. I was remote for over 10 years and had to come back.
