Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

O in a nutshell

Vote +1 if u see these scenarios, is it a common trait across the org?

# 5+ yrs as IC with consistent best perf rating & no promotion.
# Mgrs and upper levels getting promotion every other year.
# Mgrs treating ICs like trash, taking credits of their hard work.
# No reasonable raises, bonuses or stock options to IC.
# 90% of the recent layoffs only affected the ICs.
# Favoritism within the team.
# Hiring family/relatives over others.
# If u complain or report any of the above to HR, no actions and just to top it off, u will risk your position in the next layoff.

I suspect LE never really knew what he was doing. People under him most likely ran the company for him. He probably knows very little about tech and much more about manipulating people. Thus the development of the acquisition model. It’s easier to acquire than to manage real development. With acquisition you sit on your a-s and wait to see what other companies are doing, then buy what looks good. Just need a good accountant, SC. You don’t have to really integrate anything, just say you are is good enough for the market. Don’t have to follow through as no one pays that much attention. I went through couple acquisitions, horribly managed, or should I say not managed at all really. Disaster it has been. LE manages disaster well and talks over the top of it all like he knows something but does actually.

LE is an id--t really.

Seems like its hard to except reality for someone downvoting it aggressively. Heavy price paid by American workers for all the mess ORCL has created within by hiring and firing wrong people. LE too OLD to do anything useful except su-king blood out of whatever is remaining.

Someone wise said -

  • extra work time almost everyday with no extra pay = taking advantage, manipulation, no respect, unethical
  • Switch companies often = get good raise and promotion (check linked in for proof)
  • recruiter say too many job changes = manipulation tactics so you stick around longer

Always be vigilant of being manipulated by different tactics. Be strong and resilient.

I met so many people at Oracle who were just faking their way through work, and not just work, come to think of it, really faking their way through life.

Over the years I have seen people at other companies faking their experience, lying on their resumes, etc. What does that really get someone? Lying about their education, lying about their background, lying about their experience.

Just gets you in over your head and puts you in a job you can't do.

Many years back at another company there was a guy who took a job as a unix administrator. Had no experience at all. I needed him to move a unix machine to another company so we could certify the software on it as working with the other company's software.

He unplugged the machine and had no idea how to reconnect it to the network at the new company. Network could be plugged both into the mother board or a network card on this machine. It was plugged into the network card originally, then when he moved it, he connected it to the mother board and the machine was not using the port.

At that point, we turned to line mode commands to try and troubleshoot the issue. I didn't know what he had done wrong, but there was no network. I was half inclined to climb up on the table/shelf where the box was and look, but a director knew someone who knew right commands to redirect the network to the port on the mother board.

But, I found out, that the "unix administrator" didn't even know how to "cd" to a directory. He didn't know what a directory was. He knew nothing, was completely useless. He'd completely invented his resume.

I complained afterwards to his bosses and everyone around him to no avail. Then, the windows guy caught this fake disconnecting another computer to move it. And he found the guy labeling all the connectors with little tags like A, B C and then labeling the places they plugged into the back of the computer with same letters. He told me he knew the guy was a fake when he labeled the POWER CABLE! Finally, he was gone. Got a paycheck for several months and knew absolutely nothing about his job. I expect he is still somewhere doing the same thing.

You never know who is a fake and who is not. Someone claims to have an ivy league education? Really? Who knows. Maybe his friend also has an ivy league education, different school. Maybe all invented? These days anyone can put anything on linkedin, none of it verified. Who knows. People make up experience. Also, had another guy that claimed he ran part of a project at another company. I happened to actually know the person who did that, so I was able to give them a call and verify that the guy had nothing to do with that part of the project. Lies, lies, and more lies. All completely rampant at Oracle.

O in a nutshell...

Here's O in a nutshell to me:

One VP spells "lying" and "dying" like this: lieing and dieing.

Honestly, I think I learned how to spell that in second grade. LOL

Another VP spells LE's island "Lanai" as "Leni". ROFLMAO!

Sorry, but seriously, how do these people run Oracle. You would expect them to have a basic education, wouldn't you? Maybe they don't.

Have they never heard of Google? You know, you can just google the spelling of things. It's not that difficult. If they can post here, then can't they just look up a word or two, or do they not understand how to use the internet? ... But, they run cloud? How does that work?

Ha ha, keep working at ORCL for pennies and the you will figure out who gets the prestigious Lunatics award. You would come out as one of the top consideration

I am paid very well for my IC5 position, get raises as well. I legit wonder if we are working for the same company.

Man. My comment got like 30 upvotes. It actually makes me feel good. Not that so many of us went through rough times, but that I, like many, aren't alone. I would say I wear it like a badge of courage, but man, I lost 15 years of my life. Following a bunch of losers and incompetent malcontents.....who are the gross residue of a small company that was acquired. It's amazing. I can laugh now....a lot of them gave SO MUCH to the company....like they actually lost TONS of time in life...traveling, playing fake consultant/PM/BigBoy or Girl.

Oracle is a terrible place to grow.

someone feeling roasted? what an a-sh0-le? People are just sharing their observations about ORCL, and not personally at any one person, Why are you so offended?

If you are still at ORCL try to prove this wrong by action and not by reacting negatively. Hire people in US. Show genuine interest in their well being and growth for IC and not just few. Train your managers instead of making them d-mb S-h-t H-e-a-d-s. If you are unable to compete in the current market, that itself tell you where ORCL is going and all threads here must be a warning sign for all who are still at ORCL.

I think for many, Oracle was the biggest mistake of their life. I remember a complete JO I worked for. Telling me, "why are you going to learn CompSci....we can teach you all of that here...." He didn't know the difference between a firewall and a car door. It's totally insane how many terrible humans ruined good human beings there. Today I am not really angry, but I regret just about every day I spent at that company. The people I worked for, they are exactly what society doesn't need. They would lay their own mom off and then punch her while she was down. Ironically, I know many look in the mirror and realize...I have done nothing with my life except worry about cheating people out of money and hurting people.

Of course it definitely depends on how you infer which is exactly the cause of Oracle’s decline. There is no remorse for corrupt mindset. One person coerces 2 others to take work from original inventor for promotion after 13 years of being a total misfit. It is textbook of overconfidence masking incompetence.
Putting a person in a postion of responsibility that uses Oracle for reimbursement of personal travel, paying for personal friend at the most expensive restaurants several times a week and global 5 star resorts several times a year. Using people to be recipients of your taking from Oracle for years, is a mental illness. Once you get away with being promoted with someone else work, using others to take the fall should you get caught. To using innocent others as you take credit for gifting such extravagance when you filing bogus expense reports for reimbursement. Convincing them that you have unlimited expenses. It is illegal to be reimbursed for non business expenses. It is unreported taxable income which is income tax fraud.

Recipients need to sign statement that you are responsible. There is an IRS form that you need to sign releasing them from responsibility for your unlawful acts. You may think you are not raising red filags. As the most traveled person in Oracle history, legislation needs to be changed regarding points and ski miles.

Filing bogus travel expense reports to be reimbursed on card to earn more points compounds criminal behavior. Filing fraudulent business expense reports for reimbursement to earn points and delta sky miles for non business trips using personal friend to increase your points, legislation needs to be revisited.

Fire employees to hire cheaper H1Bs so you can bonus yourself and stay within budget and not raise red flags. . .
Using business exoense report for reimbursements of personal expenses. Using innocent people as recipients so you can throw them under the bus should you get caught. Hopefully they’ll be protected under RICO act. These people wouid never be involved in illegal activities. Now there are serious questions about Caribbean activities.

If you are an IC, do not work very hard and enjoy life. Start saying NO to unnecessary demands, extended working hours and weekends. DONT be fooled by promotions @ Oracle. They are the biggest trap. Keep learning relevant open source technologies and get out. I know lot of people making 6x-7x following this strategy.

While I did get whacked back in April, my experience as an IC was a little different. I attribute that to my immediate manager (a VP). She was outstanding and I did get a promotion (to IC5) and RSU’s during her tenure. She was a high-performer leading a high performance team, all with 20+ years industry experience.

Yet, the powers that be above her didn’t care. Whole group was gone in the April layoff.

I wouldn’t paint every mid-manager with one negative brush. However, senior management bears the responsibility for really screwing up the works. IMO and experience.

You have corporate politics everywhere. Ultimately it all depends on how you infer.

A non-Indian manager having all non-Indian reports doesn’t mean he/she is doing a favor. It all depends on the candidate pool recruiter is providing and you hiring a person after group interview.

I did noticed cases where I felt a non-Indian managers don’t promote non-Indians but it was all the perception.

Anyways, don’t bring some kind of racial or country of origin into this. There are ICs, managers and directors of Indian origin who got laid off in last few years.

Here’s a couple more to add -

  1. Managers bringing in Indian H1Bs by the truckload while simultaneously laying off US ICs
  2. Indian-descent male managers promoting male Indian decent ICs, while passing over anyone else for promotion
