Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

Kate's Town Hall with Brene Brown 10/12.

I'm surprised no one has posted yet. The last segment with Brown is the stupidest thing I've had to listen to.

We are crashing and burning and we are listening to our CEO get a counseling session from this foul-mouthed author who loves to brag that she knows all these important people? This is what is going to save us in 2024? There was no other author in the world that she could have brought in to save the company? This is the best we could do?

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Please get your information straight. The earlier poster who indicated that BB is on a six figure retainer is off by more than 1000%.

I was on that call too. It was 45 minutes of two overly privleged white women having a mutual admiration session... then 19 days later 4 % of the staff was kaid off. Seems Lumen can still afford Brenee Browns speaker fees.

Speaker fees? She's on retainer making 6 figures a year from the company.

$1.04 stock right now, down 30% from last night. When i checked on Monday, it was $1.33.

Got laid off this morning, and was immediately shut out of all resources as if i was fired.

Thanks a lot, Lumen. Keep focusing on vulnerability!

I believed in Kate and her team's efforts to save this company until I listened to their town hall with Brene Brown. Now all my hope is gone. That was the worst thing I've ever heard. It's over.

Quantum fiber is great, but no one wants to build the fiber infrastructure. Some of our competitors are coming in with their automation also and burying fiber cables. There are other competitors out there also who are doing a very good job. CenturyLink is mainly using the old telegraph poles and have never updated beyond morse code days.

(""I'm on the waiting list for Quantum fiber. Centurylink has bad internet in my area and the gateways don't work. I doubt if they are ready for the 4th revolution anytime soon, maby in 100 years. I hope they can stick with something that works."")

You're full of cr-p!
It works too well! It's actually a job ki-ler once the service is on.
You've smoking something or drowning in home brew.

she has been less woke lately, not starting her all hands with her what have you done to be less racist lately for 15 minutes ...

but the term has been used to describe her correctly in the past

I don't know anyone inside or outside the company who cares if a woman or man who leads Lumen, as long as we are succesdful and turn things around. No one wants to see the company fail regardless who is leading it or because we have a female CEO.

Agreed, there are plenty of very impactful and successful woman CEOs. So why didn't we get one with a proven track record? For heavens sake maybe one who knew telecom??

Ok... Kate does deserve the full opportunity to prove herself, but so far the report card at the one year mark is an F. How long is a "full opportunity"?

  1. Is there a plan we can believe to turn around the company?
  2. No. Go read a book and please don't look at the stock price that's about it.
  1. Do you trust leadership in their judgements and actions that they are doing the right thing?
  2. No Trust. What have they done in the past with other companies or in the past year with Lumen that warrants trust? New and existing leaders aren't cutting the mustard. We still have some old leadership baggage hanging around that needs to go. The actions of newer leadership are not resonating with investors, analysts, or employees.
  1. are they bringing people with relevant experience to the leadership team who "get" the market, have the impatience to drive hard, who set and execute a strategy that turns the company around.
  2. Kate admitted to hiring "misfires"... this just can't happen at that level. The sales evp admitted to hiring 300 sales people without a valid training plan to help make them successful. We develop technologies, without a plan or any education of how to sell, implement, or support. And Brene Brown... ugh.

Correct... the fluff is high and the change is very slow. But instead of slow growing green shoots, they are now calling them rays of light, so that should make it all better! They can't even get the messaging, mission and purpose statements correct.

It is an absolute disgrace that the conversation is going into mud wracking about Kate being a woman vs a man. There are plenty of very impactful and successful woman CEOs and Kate deserves the full opportunity to prove herself, so don't go down that rat hole.

Instead, what you should be asking yourselves is, is there a plan we can believe to turn around the company? Do you trust leadership in their judgements and actions that they are doing the right things, are they bringing people with relevant experience to the leadership team who "get" the market, have the impatience to drive hard, who set and execute a strategy that turns the company around.

These are very murky for me. The fluff is high, the real changes are slow. So whether their name is Kate, Kevin, Kelvin, Kung, Kwasi, or Kishore, the leader still need to lead with a real strategy!

Obviously someone doesn't know what womanizer means.
That's ok, continue to live in your feminazi fantasy world where the queen and her court jesters can do no wrong, simply because they are female or a$$ ki$$ing men. Meanwhile, the rest of the employees, both male AND female, and the analysts aren't buying her BS.

Anyone who are trashing Kate and don't even give her a chance are womanizers.
Too afraid to take orders from a female.
Must have went through Mom telling them to go clean their room too many times.

That whole meeting sounded like a woke toastmasters club where fast talking slick presentation skills are king and whomever can admit the most failures while on the job and the most vulnerability WINS ... NO, everyone wins, because there are no losers, only people keeping it real and showing their humanity.

Oh I'm sure that our princess leader gave her BFF Ms book writer with the nasty tongue a sweet deal...at least 2 years worth upwards to a million a year for services rendered. Add in 20000-29000 books at $20-$25 each and your talking $400k-$750k.
Not a bad part time gig, huh?

This clown show has lasted far too long!
I'm not sure these clowns are even worthy of a 9 box rating. It's absolutely time to clean house and get rid of them all!
They and their little author friend are such an embarrassment.

No reason not to reuse Life's Better Here. We're reusing AT&T's old work for QF.

Yes it was sickening. It started off with every exec making some type of apology for one of their failures. Only one? I can count many and the last part with Ms Book Club was unprofessional and costly.

After 9 years I left Lumen 3 months ago. It's the best decision I've made. I would have lost it being forced into a round 2 book club while everything is falling apart and great people keep leaving non stop. I think I would have thrown up if I would have seen this Brene/Kate sh-t show.

LOL these comments are spot on. I was surprised at the language she used and frankly she sounded from the get go like the first time she met Lumen employees with k@te in Arizona she thought there were a bunch of bad attitude losers from telco (hmm: the nacchio quote came to mind).

She also sounded like she was regretting working with Kate, but because they are best buds ... she did it anyways.

So nice of her!

How much money did she make from book sales and that 1.5 hour talking to us all?

Anyways, listen to me talk tough on all these unrelated things

For throwback Thursday. Too bad we can't use the "Life's Better Here" USWest slogan. Crazy we would call it life's bitter here, it seems like Utopia compared with this clown show

We are all still worshipping at the porcelain throne after enduring that 2 hour super stupid parade of incompetence and wasted time.
If I hear the words disruption/disruptive or super again today I'll scream!
I guess the foul mouthed lady is right it takes great courage and vulnerability to admit they failed like a paper house in a hurricane, led our company to lower lows, and even lower stock price.
Since we have our friend the ole 9 box around for another end of year evaluation, I'd be interested to know what everyone would rate these 5 leaders?
