Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Constantly worried about layoffs

Been here for 4 years now and left a team that I thought was horrible (with lazy managers, no work etc) to an another team which is worst. The manager of my new team has almost checked out has been here for 20 years and has no motivation to do anything good for the company and is clearly waiting to cash out.

With all the layoff talks, the non performing business, regulatory issues which are never ending, breakup talk how should I navigate this ?

I try to put my head down and focus on what I can control but the work environment is terrible in this new team. It’s filled with slackers who don’t want to do anything.

Any tips on how to navigate this ? I don’t want to simply move to another role externally but I might have to if given what is going on. I have considered doing a part time masters to upskill but that would take me 3 years and I am not sure what will be the state of this place by then.

Any tips would be appreciated as this is literally causing me a lot of mental trauma and depression where my own family members are seeing it which is not healthy.

I spent years worrying about the same thing - then i walked voluntarily because I realized the execution of strategy and the culture their actions showed (not their words) - was just next level. Most ironic moment of my life. My advice, stop worrying and overthinking - make a move even if salary is a back step - means more to do meaningful work and be proud of where you work.

Leave. I don’t mean that in the sense of “if you don’t like it get out.” We’re in a trash environment. Those who’ve checked out and quiet quit rather than leave have deformed the environment to a point of being unsustainable.

The only options are to essentially quiet quit yourself to be able to ignore everything or find better opportunities elsewhere.

Yes this page can create negative thoughts but I will disagree that most things are made up. I'm in a building that recently had a huge layoff and now walk around a ghost town.

Some prefer to stick their head in the sand and leave fate in the hands of a magical entity in the sky. I like to be prepared for what's to come.

The first thing you need to do is stay off this site. The vast majority of things written here are completely made up. The people posting this nonsense don’t care that there may be some reading and panicking about it. No one here knows anything until after it happens.

@cnc+1ozTbz9j. "They might be in the same boat as you. Once very capable and willing performers who've simply become checked the F out because of the complete dysfunction of this place."

This place is like a giant Ponzi scheme- they hire new people to be "enthusiastic" and to work like the old guard doesn't, rinse, repeat.
OP, I'd look externally.

Stay off this site as it is what is breeding all your negative thoughts. I hear almost zero talks at work about upcoming layoffs or breaking up the company, etc. it all comes from this place. Remove the negativity and you may find your worries subside.

Not sure what planet you’r living on. I am one of many recently Layed off never thought it would happen to me, high performer, constantly busy. Yet here I am. Sh-t is real. Open your eyes

Wait - you think you'll be accepted to graduate school and you don't even know the correct use of "worse" vs. "worst"? Let me guess....University of Phoenix?

Man, I feel like I could have been the OP on this thread. It really is the same everywhere in this org.

Focus on preparing your exit strategy. I agree that this place is negative, but it's mainly because we openly talking about the truth while everyone else is in full denial mode or simply unaware of the horror.

Let me take a wild guess and say you work in independent risk, right?

  1. Don’t worry about things out of your control. You have almost no control over it, worrying will change nothing.

I'd hesitate to label everyone on your team slackers. They might be in the same boat as you. Once very capable and willing performers who've simply become checked the F out because of the complete dysfunction of this place. Nobody knows what to prioritize as everything is a fire drill and nobody has any idea what their authority is to make any decisions so every initiative just swirls around over email with folks asking others to 'review and provide feedback' on everything. You try to manage up and ask your manager to help you prioritize/ensure you're going in the right direction and 9 times out of 10 the manager is just as confused as you are. Every single week, I try to seek clarity and I'm left with complete disappointment that my boss literally knows nothing at all. It's demotivating and it's gotten to the point for many thousands of us that we just don't' care anymore. Lay us off, give us a package......that used to be something that gave us a sense of comfort and we hoped it'd never come to that, but now we dream of it. This place has just completely lost it's way. The morale across the board is so low that I don't know how it will ever recover. The damage has been done.
