Still a casualty of 2005 layoff

Evidently, I just learned on Indeed it is World Su----e Prevention Day.

One hospital director directly suggested to sui-idal people to come try out thier psychiatric unit?

Why, so they can be discharged with a $50,000 debt that would only make matters worse?

Been there, done that. In 2012 I visited Sacred Heart for a few weeks. It improved the short term situation but I incurred a $50,000 debt that thank goodness was written off, but being there did not improve my long situation any.

I'm still a casualty of the 2005 failed Honeywell-GE merger. I'm still effectively blackballed as a software designer or any other employment because not enough people will write me a recommendation, and I also have a large job gap now.

I tried opening a gift shop in Pinehurst but that failed due to landlord I was subletting to losing his local business permit.

I'm bored stupid and I feel useless in life. I wish I could catch a break.

@6hbn, the best therapy for you will be to leave this moneyh3ll. Walk bravely out the door under your own power, even if you have nothing else lined up. Once away from these torturers your mind can clear and your thoughts will lighten up as they no longer hold you hostage. I don't know what the success rate of hospitalization is for those in your situation, but once you're gone from the environment of daily degradation, your situation will be changed and your situation will be different and better. The good news is that YOU are totally in control of taking this crucial step to end your job-induced pain. Leaving a few years ago was a blessing for me. Just quit and free up the rest of your life for pursuits of enjoyment and satisfaction.

If you are in a rut and boy have I been there, honestly a healthy diet and exercise changes everything. Just walking every day has a huge effect, I used to drive to a local 4 mile trail every day and after 6 months I even started running it!! There are now so many sugar free alternatives and affordable healthy food options it is actually really easy to change.
It is the secret that US healthcare does not want you to know lolol. I did it for mental health not for fitness and weight loss, they were just an added bonus.
It clears your head and gives you more motivation, it gave me the confidence to say 'Feck You' to Honeywell and walk out the door or a place that abused me for 5 years. Now my life has completely turned around and all because I started walking and changed my diet!!!

Thank you for your story. I hate my job and my shrink keeps suggesting hospitalization. I read this and refused. Whatever happens to me it can obviously get worse if I depend on doctors to fox me.

I am in your age group and I very easily found a new job in the same field with one of HW’s competitors. IMO the only HW employee that sticks.around is one that’s been there over three years and is vested, or has been there since the days of the pension and is waiting to retire. The benefit package for newer folks is weak at best. Retention is a huge problem there. Good people and work, but they need to do a better job of what they are offering.

@2cxt+1oxmS2IC Both statements are correct depending on the time frame they were made.

In recent years Honeywell standards have plummeted and the quality of employees with it, the reputation in industry now is shocking.
However a decade ago it was the reverse, there were exceptional employees leaving Honeywell in droves as they escaped the decline and other companies benefited from this.

What a difference a decade makes!

Remarkable, but I've heard the exact opposite. I have colleagues who left for competitors and were subsequently told to slow down, chill out, and stop assuming that your employment tomorrow hinges upon the completion of a year's worth of work, today. This competitor, I'm told, loves Honeywell people, because they tend not to appreciate their own worth.

I know how you feel. I'm at the age where no one wants to hire you. I got about 10 to 15 years left of work.

I'm too old. They've been using this against me when I apply for jobs. The other issue is Honeywell notorious toxic work environment. Other companies don't want it.

I was told in interview that Honeywell employees. Don't show up to work. They have attitudes. They're lazy. They also have no worth ethics. The last thing he told me. Why should I hire you when Honeywell employees. Don't follow processes or directions. Tell me why you're going to be different.

I was ready to bust out laughing. Everything they say is true. Who would want to hire somebody to and bring the Honeywell toxic culture to their workforce.
