Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Moving to Gigapower LLC

Many upper levels moving to Gigapower LLC. Many upper level retirees hiring on at Gigapower LLC.
Rumors are that other parts of the business are lined up to do the same.
Any info out there on this?

Scam to siphon off tax dollars to pay blackrock and T executives - Never gonna even try to make money or compete.

Keep voting for capitalism and keep seeing your tax dollars f.ck the working man

AT&T Metro (Leg-T product, former TCG) operates in the Phoenix area and several other non former SBC areas.

Gigapower is a joint venture with Blackrock where we are not the incumbent telco!
We are only in 21 states!
Arizona is NOT one of them!

In Jason Press town hall some lady who works for that area said drum roll, they have 300 customers in Mesa Arizona. So $1.5 billion so far investment by Blackrock for 300 customers. Assuming that is $100 per customer revenue, we are talking revenue of $360,000 per year for $1.5 billion investment. Kind of similar to how much money we threw at DirectTV and Time Warner and how much we lost.

You must have a large stake in Gigapower because you keep beating the same drum over and over, this is like your 3rd or 4th post saying the same thing, recently. Keep dreaming that occupational (essential) work is going to fade away, not happening. You realize the company has already signed and extended a large part of wireline union contracts recently. The SE wireline contract expires next year but it will be more of the same.

There will be a lot of theater then an agreement will happen, no way AT&T can afford for union workers to strike like they did in 2019 and workers will strike if the company doesn’t negotiate fairly. They’ve gone backward over the last couple of years with high inflation and no COLA. Corporate isn’t even preparing/training the managers or retirees for it.

Good luck with upper management running Gigapower.

“They are great at accomplishing incredibly complicated transitions”

You mean like the DTV and Warner mergers? Yeah, they are great. Not.

When you think about what types of work have to be done to keep this place running and what types of work could be paused what comes to moline? I think of restoring service and the wiring and installation of new service. A lot of this constant daily work is union. Critical outages can’t wait like a 9am teams meeting. I feel like the union has a chance to stick around a little while longer. These hard hat jobs are some of the few that can’t be automated. Sure we can contract out but this isn’t a project this is daily work that will never end. Believe it or not contractors are incredibly expensive. They have to be highly trained too and likely will have healthcare. The companies we use for contract services like to make a profit as well so its not like your just eleminating the cost.

if it's being staffed by people from at&t's upper management it's not hard to predict how it will end up. it's just a question of how long it will take to fizzle out and fade away.

“AT&T has been watching UPS and UAW and sees what the plan will be on the next contract negotiations. The company is taking a proactive approach and eliminating the roles and responsibilities for union employees.”

I think ups just gave out a contract with good raises and benefits intact.

“Delay any new labor contracts
Form new entity (gigapower)
Push new product to replace copper (ATT internet air)
Introduce AI to cover data and call center tasks”

Yes our top executives will have no problem replacing thousands of union technicians with gigapower. They are great at accomplishing incredibly complicated transitions for instance RTO. Granted this will be infinitely more complex to pull off but I’m confident they can do it because we have 4 levels of VP’s. EVP,SVP,VP,AVP make it work area managers with no employees. Now if they sniff missing a bonus then all bets are off and the union stays.

Can they do that?

That is the company of the future. Contract labor. Less overhead. They’re going to keep chipping away at traditional wireline and investing in gigapower. Not popular but it is what it is.

As stated before on the board and down voted:

This entity will be the future build out and maintenance of the fiber network. There will be no union employees. This is all happening in a well planned timeline.

Delay any new labor contracts
Form new entity (gigapower)
Push new product to replace copper (ATT internet air)
Introduce AI to cover data and call center tasks

AT&T has been watching UPS and UAW and sees what the plan will be on the next contract negotiations. The company is taking a proactive approach and eliminating the roles and responsibilities for union employees.

Example Internet Air-

Eliminating the need for traditional wireline infrastructure. Customer self install. No wire work - no need to negotiate that role.

In a sense these aren't real retirements. Just lateral moves to support the JV.
