Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Do I accept?

Sorry to everyone who was affected today. My role was eliminated, but I was pushed into a new position. I’m supposed to accept it today. What happens if I don’t accept? Has anyone ever declined a new role after reorg?

I had that happen to me once, after receiving a layoff notice. I wound up being at the company for an additional five years.

In my case, it was equal pay, just a different role.

If your offer isn't equal in pay that gets a lot trickier.

Reach out your your HR partner or someone in benefits before you accept or decline.

No alternate position offered here. But I’ll happily take my 60 days plus 6 months severance, bonus and PTO payout and find a job elsewhere.

Will truly miss my team, that’s what hurts the most.

OP here: same band, same pay (10% more at risk though), HR wasn’t involved at all. No discussion was had. I agree that declining means I quit, so I won’t, but I really wanted that severance.

Again I’m so sorry to those that were affected, but this is my 6th round of BS. I do envy you. Good luck out there!

Two years ago I was given the option. I stayed on with no decrease in pay combined with a decrease in responsibility. Still wanted to make money so I stayed. Been a good decision so far.

In the severance faq, you don't qualify for severance if the role was less than a 5 percent decrease in pay.

If your ERT I was told you all were being offer to move, role change or severance. I would more information to give a real opinion.

Every time I hear bullsh-t like the Biden comment, I wonder how someone can be so biased that they actually forget there was a global pandemic, supply chain challenges, and so much more besides who the president is/was. Most companies have not been the same since then. Grow the fu-k up.

I would take it, every company is laying off similar positions that T-Mobile is laying off, blame Biden not T-Mobile. I think it’s a great company, no one is inflation proof.

During layoffs people are always safe, never settle for less than your 100%. Once you start not working hard that can carry you into future jobs. Keep your work ethic intact, no matter what you choose.

HR should have went over all that with you. If not, speak with them.

People have been given the option to either take a package or a new role (demotion). Everyone I know has taken the package.

Everyone else I’ve talked to hypothetically about it said they’ll take the package.

It’s completely up to you.

Every demotion in my org has an alternate severance option.

probably same as quitting if you don't accept. just do the absolute minimum and look for new work.

From what I have seen, there is no package if you decline a position. You had a job, you just turned it down.... I would read through the paperwork carefully before declining it.

Demotions are supposed to be severance triggering events where you should get a choice (if it was a demotion)

They should have given you the option to accept or take a severance, that’s what they did to me last year. The job market is rough, if it’s the same pay, I would take it. You’ll eventually get laid off again.
