Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I got The Call today

I'm not happy in my current role so this is not a bad thing. Am just worried because I'm pushing 60 and like working remotely. 😬 Ah well, onward and upward!

@1bdg+1ohCgX2V, ever stop to think that somebody may have saved and planned but still got hit with unexpected set-backs, such as health problems (cancer can be very costly and not 100% covered by insurance) - divorce, special needs child, etc.? Sure many of us would like to be retired by 60 but there are many potential unplanned/unexpected roadblocks. But glad to hear your life has been smooth sailing - you win a cookie.

If you want to work there are opportunities in the market for more experienced workers, especially since many employers are consciously avoiding hiring younger people who don't want to work.

You may have to report to an office though, as a lot of the WFH job postings are fake. Also, if you're reestablishing yourself with a new employer they probably will want you in the office at least initially.

Good luck!

What is GES?

Losing 30% in GES is a reasonable number. Hopefully those wanting a layoff get it

Good luck OP.

Some of us done pushed past 60 and now have to find work or curtail expectations for retirement. Not everyone here gets $274,000, like Randall Stephenson.

(That's per month, by the way.)

3 out of 5 will eventually get the “call” in this company. The only variable is how many rounds of surplus it will be until you get yours. It’s the saddest, most accurate statement of reality for employees at T.

If you enjoy WFH better than having a job all is good. Enjoy.

Are you in GES? It is a bloodbath here today. I heard somewhere around 30% are getting axed.
