So here we are again. Our division just can't stop entertaining us. I rarely attend. After hours drinks, during hours drinks, snacks, various competitions, professional sporting events with prime seating, and on an on. Team building they call it. I like the people around me. We all get along. Maybe it's my personal chemistry with the work and play bit but I am not looking for a promotion. I like my job as it is. I just want to work and go home. So am I next in line to lose my job by not attending? No one has said anything to me. These events , to me, have become a tad silly.

Managers that don't understand that what's 'fun' is subjective deserve a slap in the face. If it's work, let's work. We don't need to go to the local beer and axe throwing joint and waste time/money over it. I have a spouse I'd much rather spend that time with.
Lose your job? Nah. Lose out on or higher perf rating? Probably.

My only experience with senior leaders and the survey results was a situation where several were trying to one-up each about the percentage of their team that filled it out, they hadn't when looked at the results and obviously didn't care but they must have had some $ tied to the response percent as that was the key thing for them. I won't be completing it based on this alone, not that I expect anything other than busy work to come from it anyway even if I did.

If you are in customer facing roles you should expect much of this. If you are not, then yes it can be a big PIA.
I wouldn't worry about not attending some large event. Yes, it's for team building and networking but it shouldn't be that big of a deal if you don't attend. That said, it is fun for many of us to attend these things to socialize outside of work or connect for other colleagues.
I have worked at other companies and the theme was always ‘up or out.’ It’s corporate America today, and WF is finally catching up with their peers. It’s hard if it’s new to you, but for others it’s normal. It’s all I have ever known for 20 years.
Fake post designed to rile up those who are working hard and feeling neglected and disrespected, which is 99.9 of the employees. Don’t give this ar-e the time of day.
You should go as often as you can stand it. This kind of forced socializing is not in your job description, but it should be. It’s simply work in an alternate venue, the purpose of which is to illustrate what an excellent team builder your manager is. If you don’t show up it’s a slap in their face.
Be glad they don’t take pics and post them on LinkedIn to show what a fun group you are. Mine does, and heaven help us if we’re not smiling.
You have a valid concern but you are also extremely lucky to be in a group that cares about team building.
You won’t get figure but make sure you cultivate good relationships at work and attend the events once every other month
If OP likes his job and gets along with the others he should be free to feel the way he feels. Events are not mandatory.

Why are you complaining about this? It sounds pretty awesome to me.
In my area...risk...it is pure drudgery. We work nights, weekends, holidays and get zero perks.
We never travel, are never treated to a meal, given swag, never awarded anything for Superior work or effort.
I would trade with you in a heartbeat.
Some people have a difficult time with this, it's one of those nuerodiversity things. I'll work with my colleagues for 60+ hours a week and I'm perfectly functional and happy. I'm not doing social hour stuff though, the more it happens the less a part of the team I feel. This has likely been detrimental at times throughout adulthood, but it is what it is.

I don’t think the question is “am I next in line to lose my job?”
I think the question is, “if you and a peer are equally performing in all other regards, and they attend those events and you don’t, are you prepared for the reality that it might be a deciding factor for them to stay and you to be displaced?”
If your answer is you know what, I’m ok with that, proceed. Otherwise, maybe su-k it up every once in a while and go to a few of the events.
Should it ultimately matter, no of course not. Could it in this environment, of course, and to pretend otherwise is ignorant.
What again is your problem? I would have loved to attend if my team had the budget and there is nothing wrong in celebration with colleagues or observe them having a good time out of work. I wish all of them with such privileges enjoy especially during these times where there are budget cuts.
