Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

BREAKING - Centene Poised for Layoffs Next Week, Documents Reveal

A round of layoffs at St. Louis, Mo .-based Centene is set for Oct. 2 to Oct. 5. The plans are detailed in a 13-page set of confidential HR documents entitled “Supporting December Transitions” obtained by Health Payer Specialist. The last day of work for the fired brigade will be Dec. 8, 2023, the HR documents say.

The instructions in the HR documents offer a “notification meeting script” for those due to lose their jobs, one that suggests the number of firings will be large enough to have an impact on Centene’s bottom line.

In one-on-one meetings with employees who will be fired, the HR workers are instructed to say, “Thank you for meeting with me today. Over the last 18 months Centene has been actively working on its Value Creation Plan. . . We are facing headwinds related to the [Medicaid] redetermination process and the impact of Medicare Advantage Star Ratings.”

The script continues, “that unfortunately results in the elimination of your position. Your termination date will be Dec. 8, 2023.”

In the HR documents, the targeted workers are told they have 45 days from termination to sign or refuse to sign an agreement outlining the terms of severance. Workers will get health coverage and other benefits through Dec. 31, 2023.

The HR documents also include a “save the date” notice telling the HR workers of sessions set for Sept. 27 and 28 on “managing employee reactions” to learning they are losing their jobs.

One directive in the documents says the managers will learn to recognize and deal with the signs of shock, defined as when the worker appears “quiet, tearful, sad, and unresponsive.” Another learning module will tell the managers how to deal with worker anger, seen when a soon-to-be former employee “raises voice, holds aggressive posture, becomes argumentative.”

Still others will likely be in denial, seen when the worker “appears confused, avoiding eye contact.” Far easier for the managers will be those with an air of resignation, one who “appears calm, lacking in emotion.”

The training sessions are meant to make it easier on managers as well as the employees being terminated.

The unlucky employees “will exit the organization with respect, care, and concern,” the directives promise.

Centene did not respond to requests to discuss the pending layoffs.

“ These managers know so much more than they put out.”

Not true. Managers are no better informed than staff 99% of the time. Directors and above are the ones who knew.

RE: @1sgm+1oNUjeJa (How many were termed in August?)

Unsure of exact number that were actually fired (vs. employees who voluntarily quit and/or vendors who had their access terminated), but was able to see termination requests for over 4k unique users in August 2023. In all likelihood, the number of employees let go in August was well north of 2k.

My team was just told we will know by the end of the day tomorrow if we are one of the 2,000.
Let’s see how true that is.
May the odds be ever your favor! I pray those that are on the list, get better paying, more flexible, peaceful jobs.

Centene is no so much like a representation of Capitalism but more like fascism, In capitalist society management ( executives) get penalized for their bad decisions, here they use hr predatory practice to hide their own failures and blame the employee. Management should be fired ( Sarah the poet and Drew) and disposed if its perks , not the employees

There is no talk about the layoffs they already did in August. It’s a huge secret no one can know anything, no one can say anything. This company is a huge disaster with only focus is on filling their pocket and not caring for the community.

August layoffs are terming Oct. 6th, complete with a severance package. Leadership continues to say “we value you, continue to work hard” all with your expiration date creeping up. No one is for sure but layoffs in August are rumored to be 1000-1500.

Agree 100% we are led by sociopaths in our government. There is a lot happening behind the scenes and psyops created to keep the people distracted. Also agree, this is a weightier subject and not the best time to elaborate.

I am curious: how many people were cut in August? And does this 2k account for those people, too? Or is the number larger than we are being told? And why can we never find any information on the individual WARN ACTS for the different states?

Unfortunately the very first thing I learned up on joining Centene a few years ago is how terribly disorganized and ad hoc everything is. Too many serial acquisitions and no time aligning on workflow, culture, etc almost at all, I think.

The right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing, and in fact we may need to break this analogy down to individual fingers to be more accurate.

No clear direction, no clear workflow, no clear roles within departments… it’s a circus. For an entity this big to operate this way is incredible. I can’t see how it would possibly continue like this very long.

Me again, can at least a select few of us blast off some emails to execs? I mean really. I want them to see these comments in their inboxes. I want them to see what 50,000+ people have to say about them. I want them to sheepishly address us on Thursday. I know some higher management is in here.

Agreed in spirit but some quibbles on details. Pretty much all of Europe is some form of Social Democracy, not Communism, and even then it’s bolted to a Capitalist undercarriage in every case. Those wait times are usually due to systems starved for funding because they’re treated as entitlements rather than human rights. That’s not communism.

We live on a planet ruled by sociopaths. It shows a lot more now than it has in generations. People are waking up to it.

Hopefully in enough critical mass before the ecosystem utterly fails, but I have my doubts.

Anyhow, that’s a bit heady for a layoff conversation. Nobody who’s afraid to be impacted is likely to want to have a political debate right now.

That said though… it’s certainly relevant and therein lies the answer to all of this anxiety and suffering. It’ll just continue like this forever with the “people” currently in charge.

Does anyone know what departments are on the list? I started at the company recently and fear I may be on the chopping block 😖 there is no transparency. I thought joining a large company would have established processes for things like this but I am surprised at the lack of transparency from executive leadership. I am in a leadership position yet still not in the loop with the upper leadership politics. Also, I was so disappointed after joining this company and seeing the lack of diversity in leadership positions, that itself is a problem. I left a good company that aimed for diversity and strives to have women and minorities in leadership roles. Even if I am not effected by the layoffs, I am very disappointed to be apart of this company and how they are handling this situation.

My god, are the Centene executives in the room with us now? Only explanation for the capitalist bootlicking bible toting comments.

This is real life. People are hoarding wealth. The disparity is greater than it was during the French Revolution.

I'm amused at the thoughts that the only two options are Capitalism and Communism. There are MUCH happier, healthier and stable places in the world.

Also, ask an actual European what healthcare is like overseas. It's not nearly as bad as we are led to believe. Yes, you have to wait for some things, but, never for an authorization, or appeal. Have you, as a U.S. citizen tried to get in to see a specialist lately? Some wait times are from 8-12 months. Tests to screen for deadly illness and disease are gatekept by age minimums, despite a growing number of people below the age threshold being diagnosed, and diagnosed too late (and then having to deal with the medical bills to go along with it).

Some of you folks are absolutely brainwashed into thinking that the American way is the best way. And i know the "then leave" comments are coming. Look at the rate of immigration from the U.S. in recent years - we ARE leaving.

Because the US empire was sanctioning and proxy-warring them all into oblivion via NATO, their organized crime ring for billionaires.

Why are we having tiresome decades old arguments?

For the other guy re: nihilism and fun at parties, I was responding to your pedantry in the first place, my guy!! :)

ANYWAY - anybody looking at the state of this country, NATO, and the world right now and thinking “Oh yeah, capitalism is the best system and boy is it working!” is an unimaginable buffoon.

Good luck to all impacted by this layoff. It sounds like the round in August was just as big but simply didn’t get leaked so they never addressed it. Seriously shady and unethical. Especially if they’re doing it in stages simply to avoid WARN notices as was posited last night by a commenter or two.

What a s*** show.

Why were people fleeing soviet union for western democracies and not the other way around?

If Capitalism is so bad, I recommend moving out of the country and experiencing other government. Using fancy words while living in Capitalism, getting paid by Capitalism is not only hypocritical, it supports that you do not hate it.

It's the large companies that support the economy and most employee wages. Do you use Amazon? Do you go to Wal-Mart, Target, Costco, Sam's Club? Or should we ban all these companies? What do you suggest?

'Pay your fair share' jargon. What you are suggesting is a higher tax rate evenly, which would destroy the average American person. The U.S. has the most progressive income tax system, in addition, these large corporations pay the highest amount of taxes (review tax publications on the IRS website) and that is how they can reduce health insurance cost, dental cost, vision cost--I am sure you are not paying 100% of your cost.

If we put a 'free donut' sign people will come in. That is what other governments use and reviewing the statistics the wait list are long standing for care or assistance as the burden is on everyone with little reward or reimbursement.

In a free market system you are supposed to bare the consequences of the risk taken. This is true across the board. We can't blame company owners who put sweat, money, and time into their product to grow the business, and then bicker about their choices because they do not benefit you.

Start a business, when hard times fall, tell me you will keep ALL your employees and ignore all your contractual obligations to your investors. Sounds like a great way to be sued and jailed for violations of the signed agreement.

Good things are happening in the world and our system will be changed and we will no longer be slaves. Healthcare will be greatly impacted but this 'system' we have been living in, this lie is all coming to land end!
If you have not yet done so go watch 'The Greatest Show On Earth' on Rumble. You will be shocked and follow Bo Polny and Nino The Hunters Become the Hunted on YT. Just follow Bo and follow Dr. Scott Young Nesara on YT and you will understand why maybe this is happening. No comments needed just do it!

Everyone is operating out of fear, I understand we all can’t just stop working to show the big guy what’s up. But everyone has a right to be angry that we are lining the pockets of billionaires. I get ready for my second job on my lunch break, none of those board members work harder than me or anyone else on this forum.

This isn’t nihilism, this is reality. It’s sad that we outnumber them and could stop this machine on our own but again, we are operating out of fear. Right where they want us.

Godspeed everyone. You have every right to be angry. Stay angry. I hope it makes a difference

It's the way business works. There is no need to copy and paste facts. All companies pay for liabilities in the event something were to occur. We can cast stones and be upset, this will not change the direction of the company.

We can talk ill of leadership, or logically recognize that a CEO will make more than other employees. If you own a business, would you make more or your employees?

We can go back and forth in our emotions, or pause and research that this happens every quarter with every company to meet investors quotas.

Centene did not fund itself, it had investors, they expect their portion. This goes beyond feelings and fairness, it's business.

This is not being callous as I've faced my share of layoffs, it is factual.

In the end, the business is going to do what it must to survive. If that means outsource, reduce workforce, change trajectories, it will.
