Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

BREAKING - Centene Poised for Layoffs Next Week, Documents Reveal

A round of layoffs at St. Louis, Mo .-based Centene is set for Oct. 2 to Oct. 5. The plans are detailed in a 13-page set of confidential HR documents entitled “Supporting December Transitions” obtained by Health Payer Specialist. The last day of work for the fired brigade will be Dec. 8, 2023, the HR documents say.

The instructions in the HR documents offer a “notification meeting script” for those due to lose their jobs, one that suggests the number of firings will be large enough to have an impact on Centene’s bottom line.

In one-on-one meetings with employees who will be fired, the HR workers are instructed to say, “Thank you for meeting with me today. Over the last 18 months Centene has been actively working on its Value Creation Plan. . . We are facing headwinds related to the [Medicaid] redetermination process and the impact of Medicare Advantage Star Ratings.”

The script continues, “that unfortunately results in the elimination of your position. Your termination date will be Dec. 8, 2023.”

In the HR documents, the targeted workers are told they have 45 days from termination to sign or refuse to sign an agreement outlining the terms of severance. Workers will get health coverage and other benefits through Dec. 31, 2023.

The HR documents also include a “save the date” notice telling the HR workers of sessions set for Sept. 27 and 28 on “managing employee reactions” to learning they are losing their jobs.

One directive in the documents says the managers will learn to recognize and deal with the signs of shock, defined as when the worker appears “quiet, tearful, sad, and unresponsive.” Another learning module will tell the managers how to deal with worker anger, seen when a soon-to-be former employee “raises voice, holds aggressive posture, becomes argumentative.”

Still others will likely be in denial, seen when the worker “appears confused, avoiding eye contact.” Far easier for the managers will be those with an air of resignation, one who “appears calm, lacking in emotion.”

The training sessions are meant to make it easier on managers as well as the employees being terminated.

The unlucky employees “will exit the organization with respect, care, and concern,” the directives promise.

Centene did not respond to requests to discuss the pending layoffs.

Millionaire democrats and millionaire republicans operate identically. They have the same motives. 2 sides of the same coin. Keep that out of here.

Wow, WOW, I wonder if there's a post more viewed and commented than this one in this website. Centene has less 70k employees and there are more than 70k views, this is certainly newsworthy, Gale the reported who leaked the news, you should publish another article about Centene employees and their feelings towards the current " leaders" .

@1brh+1oNUjeJa look it up in the Internet, Sarah with barely not background in a health payer was attached a rocket in her a-s all the way to CEO, I believe there 8s an article in poets and quant where she says she is a poet and acknowledged to be a failure in trying to get to Hollywood, before that she was just a sales person talking about liquid data, she is been full of it all her career, what to expect in Centene with that clown as CEO.

“Sarah the poet” came from the lovely cold hearted email she wrote to all employees telling us 2,000 of us are getting fired and she’s letting us know she’s telling us this because it got leaked. That leaks must’ve just ruined her day!

Sara the poet makes more than ~$12mm in compensation, she is not qualified, she screwed up the company, getting rid of her would certainly bring substantial savings, the board chooses to keep her and getting rid of 2000 employees instead

Everybody should not show up for work until the CEO( Sarah the Poet) the CFO( Drew) , the president (Ken) are out , and the board restablish transparency in new leadership. We have the power to do so and be heard. Those 3 alone make like $40mm, no more tax payer money for this organization, States should cancel their contract until these pig executives are out

False: severance is taxed at the same rate. Just Google it.

“Severance is taxed at a higher rate, so whatever you expect, reduce it by 40% to get an idea of what you will receive.”

"Severance is taxed at a higher rate"... not necessarily true. Taxes will likely be withheld at a higher rate because it may result in you having more taxed income in the calendar year but you can control that by updating your W-4. It is taxed the same as your ordinary income but the more you make, the more tax that is due. It may also be free of many of your other withholdings such as medical and you can choose whether or not to withhold 401-K, HSA, etc.

Severance is taxed at a higher rate, so whatever you expect, reduce it by 40% to get an idea of what you will receive. Also please note, the payout takes 1 or 2 pay cycles after a 7 day cool off period once you sign the severance agreement.

You sure about that? Instead of 2000 people finding out they are losing their job, 66,000 people are on pins and needles worrying for days whether or not they are on the list even though 97% of them are safe. It helps no one.

I am also down to unionize. We refuse to work until our demands are met. The board needs to act swiftly. I’ve already emailed my local news and Missouri’s about what’s going on. There’s a lot of us available to make real change, not just company wide but country wide. The UAW is making history. People are waking up and wising up.

We need a different forum where we aren’t anonymous. But it’s hard to trust anyone on this board when it’s definitely being watched by Centene higher ups. There’s no way they aren’t seeing this.

To the unionize comments, how? Like seriously how bc I'm in! I think a lot of people would be if we could organize on not work computers.
Sarah london does not need 13 mil per year. The estate of Michael niedorf does not need 7mil. Staff is struggling to get by bc of bonus cuts, costly insurance, and no cost of living increases! A co worker has been here 10 years and even after the wage increase to shut us up about taking our bonus and Is taking home less after insurance increases.

I truly hope for those of us who get terminated that this is a blessing in disguise. I know I’ve personally felt cornered and bullied by Centene for the last year. Maybe for some of us this will be a push in a better direction, even though this is so scary. I am so sad and so angry for everyone this will affect.

If I get the boot and the severance is $h!t, I’ll blast out some tasteful emails before my departure. Good luck to all of us. Eat the rich.

With Severance:
Is this a lump sum?
Is it 2 weeks for every year?
Can you get Unemployment?
If our term date is December 8th (as mentioned on a prior post) then we would get severance with benefits actually ending on Dec 31st?
Just trying to prepare if I am a chosen one.

I have always been so incredibly proud to be a part of Centene and what they stand for. I have sang their praises for the entire 11 years I have been employed by them. UNTIL YESTERDAY!! We work in the corporate world, layoffs happen. Knowing there was no transparency and the fact that corporate management has known "who's going" for almost two months with out giving these folks the additional time to try to rearrange their lives to accommodate a job loss, in an already struggling economy, is truly EMBARRASSING!!! Centene is about the bottom dollar. Not its members and definitely not their employees.

more leaked scripts from the town hall
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to cancel the in-person attendance for today’s town hall, but will be taking pre-vetted and scripted questions submitted by our HR staff, replacing our standard live Q&A session. To really drive home the fact that “CEOs, They’re Just Like Us!”, i’ve decided to dress down today and forego wearing makeup to show solidarity with the 2K people getting let go tomorrow. Now that all that sad and boring stuff is out of the way, we’re excited to bring out the Tampa Bay Bucs Cheerleaders to lead us in a cheer to boost moral!”

I worked out of the Lathem NY office running their mailroom..... I am so glad I quit. I knew the day Fidelis announced they sold us to Centene it wouldn't be long before they got rid of us. I really miss the days when it was Fidelis it felt like one big happy family then. All I have to say is don't quit ride it out so you can collect the severance package but in the mean time get your resume out there.

Good Luck to all that are let go!

I don’t know anything, just speculation, but I feel like Health Net will be hit the hardest, they’re losing tons of members due to the Medi-cal redetermination in 2024.

California Health and Wellness too - huge Medi-cal (Medicaid) LOB

They never include temps on or in anything that have to do with the parent company. They are temps - if they are being let go it will be through whoever Centene contracted them through. My guess, though, is that not many of them will be let go because they don't get paid nearly as much as Centene employees (which is not saying much about Centene's "competitive" wages which are not at all competitive) and they don't get benefits or anything else through Centene. That is not to say they are not valuable employees just that they are cheaper labor and Centene relies heavily on contracted workers for this very reason.
