Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

BREAKING - Centene Poised for Layoffs Next Week, Documents Reveal

A round of layoffs at St. Louis, Mo .-based Centene is set for Oct. 2 to Oct. 5. The plans are detailed in a 13-page set of confidential HR documents entitled “Supporting December Transitions” obtained by Health Payer Specialist. The last day of work for the fired brigade will be Dec. 8, 2023, the HR documents say.

The instructions in the HR documents offer a “notification meeting script” for those due to lose their jobs, one that suggests the number of firings will be large enough to have an impact on Centene’s bottom line.

In one-on-one meetings with employees who will be fired, the HR workers are instructed to say, “Thank you for meeting with me today. Over the last 18 months Centene has been actively working on its Value Creation Plan. . . We are facing headwinds related to the [Medicaid] redetermination process and the impact of Medicare Advantage Star Ratings.”

The script continues, “that unfortunately results in the elimination of your position. Your termination date will be Dec. 8, 2023.”

In the HR documents, the targeted workers are told they have 45 days from termination to sign or refuse to sign an agreement outlining the terms of severance. Workers will get health coverage and other benefits through Dec. 31, 2023.

The HR documents also include a “save the date” notice telling the HR workers of sessions set for Sept. 27 and 28 on “managing employee reactions” to learning they are losing their jobs.

One directive in the documents says the managers will learn to recognize and deal with the signs of shock, defined as when the worker appears “quiet, tearful, sad, and unresponsive.” Another learning module will tell the managers how to deal with worker anger, seen when a soon-to-be former employee “raises voice, holds aggressive posture, becomes argumentative.”

Still others will likely be in denial, seen when the worker “appears confused, avoiding eye contact.” Far easier for the managers will be those with an air of resignation, one who “appears calm, lacking in emotion.”

The training sessions are meant to make it easier on managers as well as the employees being terminated.

The unlucky employees “will exit the organization with respect, care, and concern,” the directives promise.

Centene did not respond to requests to discuss the pending layoffs.

I’m confused why everyone is thinking the surveys mean anything. They are normal right? I get them yearly. I’ve worked here for a little over 4 years. I get the COI every year. I’m not meaning to sound rude, I’m genuinely wondering.

I know you are afraid of potential layoff, but in reality actuaries are relatively safe and almost immune from layoff since it is really hard to find the replacement for those positions given the difficulty of the actuarial exams. I'll say you are safe, and I encourage you to get off from this site. No need to freak out.

Well, Neidorf built a fortune 500, Sarah, I honestly don't know what Sarah has done other than being handed the job and increased her wealth in that gig by millions, I guess some people earn its succes like Michael, some people are just lucky like Sarah.

@4wen+1oNUjeJa The same mid-et CFO acknowledged they are buying back their stocks, that executive team got there by mere luck, they have 0 merit being in those positions, they have done nothing right, some of those businesses being sold are good business, they just don't know how to operate them, because this are corporate thieves, not builders or creators, they are just trying to patch a hole in their p&l with for the mess they created, refocusing in quality, what the fu-k are you talking about, they dismantle corp quality just recently, and it is nightmare and everything is now sinking like a ship, they have the same id--ts running medicare , the old same ones from Wellcare, incapables of achieving sh-t, they just happened to be closed to Drew the mid-et, that all he cares is about the stock price and his pocket book at the expense of burning the company to the ground by laying off his workforce, this is the worse executive team not only in Centene, but in the history of healthcare.

"Is there anybody who didn't get the conflict of interest or employee satisfaction survey?"

I (EBOS First Time Claims) got both but my sister (also EBOS 1st time claims- different state market) didn't get either email today. Not sure what to make of that. My sister got the windows 11 update a full month before I did.

There are definitely layoffs in corporate. Up to the RVP level. At least in corporate, they are looking to ax senior departmental employees with the fattest compensation packages.

Neidorff's compensation was 2X Sarah's. He was the highest paid healthcare executive in America. Blaming a new CEO for endemic quality issues is like blaming a new president for gas prices. Neidorff grew this company through sh---y acquisition after sh---y acquisition, with one goal in mind: to elevate Centene as high up on the Fortune list as possible. There was zero regard given to company integration after mergers until WellCare was acquired and it became too big of a problem to ignore. The practice of revenue growth through acquisition has resulted in one of the most decentralized and disorganized, monolithic companies out there. Quality sh-----g the bed was inevitable. I'm not on Team Sarah, per se, but harkening back to the "good old days" under Michael is delusional.

The new executive team has gotten SOME things right. Refocusing on quality by quickly divesting our non-core and shittiest assets was a good move. It also signaled that the massive di-k swinging ego of Tiny Neidy, who planned on taking over the world one sh---y acquisition after another, was a thing of yesteryear.

As for this current layoff debacle...yeah the C-suite can go munch on a bag of di-ks.

Centene is just a dysfunctional organization, you have that tug of war between Wellcare and old Centene executives, by the way they decimated all previous Centene executives. now some of those new implants from Humana with their own subculture trying to figure out where is the power based after they pushed out the new COO, a CEO that is more like a puppet talking head, that doesn't lead and doesn't know what to do most days, and flurry of VPs , in HR, Corp Comm, DEI that all they do is gossip around , prey upon people and opine some sh-t nobody cares. There is no leadership here, at least when Michael was in charge he ruled with an iron fist, and this level of deceit and chaos didn't existed, right now is more like a game of survival, it just the epitome of a toxic organization.

I was let go from Centene about five years ago and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. WAY overworked, stressed out to the max. I'm sorry for everyone that is losing their jobs but it doesn't surprise me a bit. That company is the absolute worst to work for and providers hate dealing with them.

Centene is the drag of healthcare, you don't see the level of deceit and backstabbing in the Humana, United of the world. Not even in other smaller companies. I miss Neidorf, the guys was cut throat, but at least he could stick to a plan and mission . Some respect to that , this are just a bunch of leaches, new richs wannabe that should not be there

I haven't gotten the survey nor the COI questionnaire but I checked my last COI in ARCHER and I'm supposed to receive the next questionnaire on 10/4/2023.

I’m quite certain the opposite. It’s a yearly thing. I would think it wouldn’t apply to someone who’s no longer going to be here.

Is the conflict of interest questionnaires an indicator of layoff?

Sarah is just a clown , seems to me the person in charge is Drew, that mid-et a bit twitchy dude, he can talk , but I don't think is not doing what needs to get done, and the place is going downhill.

Sarah London’s salary only made up 10% of her income and the other 90% in bonuses. This is why people are being laid off.

There needs to be a class action lawsuit whether you are initially laid off or not. No proper notification. After the layoff you are still subject to be terminated. No benefits to you at that time. LEADERSHIPS DIGRESSION after that point! Then what?? HR will not help you. They will gather your facts and cover for them. No one is safe. Share.

Is that based on individual evaluation or based on the department scores?

"Historically they primarily layoff according to the previous year’s evaluation score. I have survived 4 rounds of layoffs in 2 years."

How can you confirm this as fact? People as high as VP level are in the dark so not sure how anything can be confirmed as fact

"I can confirm, more rounds of layoffs coming, 100%. This is the second leaked round, first was silent. Several more to come, and those departments not affected heavily this time, will be in subsequent rounds.

I know as fact."1

The survey is just like last year, the smaller random one not employee engagement survey. Business as usual, it has nothing to do with any of this.

I'm hoping that is the case about the survey. It's a survey asking about the experience as an employee I think. I didn't really read it to be honest but it's also not open yet and closes on the 17th. It came from HR. I was too scared to ask my team members if they got it

My people leader confirmed it will effect some in cooperate config, along with other departments. They would not give any more details but if I were to guess I would think it will be people from both Medicare and Medicaid. Now we get to play the fun game of waiting for a week to find out.
