Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

BREAKING - Centene Poised for Layoffs Next Week, Documents Reveal

A round of layoffs at St. Louis, Mo .-based Centene is set for Oct. 2 to Oct. 5. The plans are detailed in a 13-page set of confidential HR documents entitled “Supporting December Transitions” obtained by Health Payer Specialist. The last day of work for the fired brigade will be Dec. 8, 2023, the HR documents say.

The instructions in the HR documents offer a “notification meeting script” for those due to lose their jobs, one that suggests the number of firings will be large enough to have an impact on Centene’s bottom line.

In one-on-one meetings with employees who will be fired, the HR workers are instructed to say, “Thank you for meeting with me today. Over the last 18 months Centene has been actively working on its Value Creation Plan. . . We are facing headwinds related to the [Medicaid] redetermination process and the impact of Medicare Advantage Star Ratings.”

The script continues, “that unfortunately results in the elimination of your position. Your termination date will be Dec. 8, 2023.”

In the HR documents, the targeted workers are told they have 45 days from termination to sign or refuse to sign an agreement outlining the terms of severance. Workers will get health coverage and other benefits through Dec. 31, 2023.

The HR documents also include a “save the date” notice telling the HR workers of sessions set for Sept. 27 and 28 on “managing employee reactions” to learning they are losing their jobs.

One directive in the documents says the managers will learn to recognize and deal with the signs of shock, defined as when the worker appears “quiet, tearful, sad, and unresponsive.” Another learning module will tell the managers how to deal with worker anger, seen when a soon-to-be former employee “raises voice, holds aggressive posture, becomes argumentative.”

Still others will likely be in denial, seen when the worker “appears confused, avoiding eye contact.” Far easier for the managers will be those with an air of resignation, one who “appears calm, lacking in emotion.”

The training sessions are meant to make it easier on managers as well as the employees being terminated.

The unlucky employees “will exit the organization with respect, care, and concern,” the directives promise.

Centene did not respond to requests to discuss the pending layoffs.

I was not able to login to Workday until after 12:20 pm EST. I was trying to check if anything changed. It hadn't...yet.
But the fact that it was the circle of doom all morning, every time I tried to get in was telling.

Ambetter SS got hit hard today. The way they handled this is not ok. Everyone walking around stressed whether the next ding of an e-mail was their notice or not. It’s just not right. This whole thing was handled so poorly. With zero professionalism or just human compassion for your employees.

Karma happens so much faster these days. I know they say it’s business. However, your lack of making sure the company’s Medicare STARS Rating maintains its status is your #1 Priority Sarah WHY? It is how you keep the lights on. And #2 is following CMS guidelines so no Ma’am you did not follow through on the business needs and now THOUSANDS of lives are impacted. The employees who worked very hard day after day, week after week, year after year to make the company proud and this is the reward and thanks. How do you sleep at night? You should’ve done better. You should’ve have been better. YOU LET THOSE YOU CLAIM TO BE FAMILY DOWN ON SO MANY LEVELS

Even if nothing we can do, we can still work together to get this WARN ACT loophole they have be taken a look at. They need to be held accountable with the law. These loopholes cannot continue to happen. We should be able to have a job with transparency not only because it was leaked that they are forced to be “transparent”. They get away with so much already. How can we this collective group and those not commenting but still looking for guidance but at over 150,000 views, continue to let them get away with not having to comply with law only because of loopholes. There has to be someone in here that can go on to become a politician and want to change this !!! We are in this boat together and it is not Noah’s ark!!!!

Praying for the affected because even though I was saved, so many in my team were not. Maybe they are really the more fortunate since they will have severance and also can look for better opportunities while the rest “saved” will have to take on more responsibilities once they are no longer with us. All I know is there is always light at the end of the tunnel …. They used the word non impacted but it doesn’t feel this way as I do and did feel impacted…. Will be forever traumatized by the pin and needles experience and cannot begin to feel what those who were laid off feel …. But when one door closes I know many more open …. Be hopeful and apply for jobs ….. we are all in this together as this is corporate America at its finest !

Anyone from Florida on this thread? We have only heard Medicare UM being affected.

I have heard that both Medicaid and Medicare UM in FL have been impacted greatly. So far, I have personally not gotten a notice. However, I have a strong feeling this is not the end of it. Therefore, I am preparing for the worst to come. I am praying for each and every employee to include those who have been notified, and those still on pins and needles. Never in my life have I experienced such chaos. It is extremely sad especially during very hard economic times and the holidays around the corner. I thought very highly of this company prior to this. Now, I am one big ball of anxiety and disappointment.

I was told PA Health & Wellness wasn’t impacted. I know some people who were apart of the cut in August that were PHW employees. My heart goes out for all those who found out today, I can’t stop checking this thread

Okay ....will PA Health & Wellness be impacted? Absolute no disrespect to those who are impacted ( praying for everyone and sincerely wish you the best) but why in the name of goodness wouldn't upper management have our PL say your okay for now. Why have people anxious and concerned? Provide some form of peace. 😔 Is that unreasonable

Does anyone know if the 2000 include temp employees as well and how many of Centene's employee total account for temp workers if any? I checked some overseas employees (India I think) and their last time online was Friday and none of them have been online today.

Calculated how? At your current annual rate?

Mine worked out to about 3 weeks severance per year worked.

@6dtz+1oNUjeJa

People most likely aren’t being specific about supervisor, location, etc because their severance paperwork probably mentions forfeiting the 60 day grace period (work until December) and/or any severance if they share the details of their layoff/severance arrangement.

I had that happen to me at another employer and it was a nightmare experience. I was not allowed to tell my coworkers that I’d been laid off, everybody thought everything was fine, etc.

Shouldn’t be legal, it was psychological torture.

RE:

WARN notices are not per state of where the employees are, WARN is by the incorporation State of the EMPLOYER. This website is nothing but gossip and uneducated employee posting sm--k. YES there are lay offs, but notice no one is even being clear WHAT area they are in being let go? No SUP names, No locations, etc.

"It does not appear that the health insurer filed a WARN notice through the state of Missouri, according to a publicly available dashboard. Centene did not provide Fierce Healthcare with more clarity regarding whether it filed a WARN notice."

They did not file a warn notice in many states. BECAUSE LARGER COMPANIES DO NOT ADHERE TO THE FULL WARN NOTICES BY STATE. It also goes by the state they are incorporated in and not always where they are located.

https://www.healthcarefinancenews.com/news/centene-settles-medicaid-fraud-claims-texas-165-million

This is the latest in a string of settlements for Centene.

In August, the company agreed to pay more than $33 million to resolve claims that it overcharged Apple Health in Washington, the state's Medicaid program, according to Reuters.

In June, Centene agreed to pay $13.7 million to New Mexico to settle an investigation of inflationary pricing and reporting of pharmacy benefits in the state's Medicaid program.

THE LARGER TREND

Centene has settled similar claims with 10 other states, including New Hampshire, Ohio and Mississippi, for a total of more than $260 million, according to the Reuters report.
