Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Attention Employees

We take all Pulse feedback seriously and encourage you take better advantage to share with leaders any inefficiencies or opportunities to streamline our business lines.

The freedom of a forum like this may feel liberating, but it is not appropriate to share sensitive internal company discussions like this with the general public. These are not just the whims of oversensitive leaders, but essential concerns tied with compliance and the protection of USAA’s reputation. Keep the ship afloat helps all of us.

Please consider abandoning this forum. I know some malcontents outside USAA, perhaps those who felt they could bully leaders into enabling their “work” from home, hope something will come from their ranting. All it does instead is poison the well.

If you continue to post here, don’t be surprised if there is a correlation with your trajectory at the company. These posts will brainwash you into a toxic mindset that has no place in the pursuit to give our Members the best products and service that we can.

“If you continue to post here, don’t be surprised if there is a correlation with your trajectory at the company.”

At last check we are filling over 80% of our open positions with external candidates. Most of our “trajectory” in the company is out the door anyway. The toxic culture is causing us to voice concerns in forums like this one.

Correlate my experience as a member, with the trajectory your executives have already poisoned.

I wrote to the Senate and Congress VA Committees about my treatment OP. You sound like you drink from the same source as the person that cancelled me.

The joke's on them. Whoever is doing it he's waisting his time, as vote manipulations are against website's rules and those votes get reseted periodically.

Pretty sure this is it, someone just added a bunch of positive ticks that one night by circumventing whatever they use to identify the browser session. It doesn’t seem that hard to do.

I noticed the same thing. 3 days ago, the net vote for the original post was around -120. Then there was a surge of positive votes bringing the net up. Seems highly suspicious.

The current votes are +201/-225, resulting in a difference of -24 on an exceptionally long post. The numbers do add up. Unclear what you are complaining about.

How did they get all those up votes? I use my phone and after I like or dislike it is gray so I can't "double like" anything. Did they send 199 minions here? Use different devices or a vpn?

Since this post is titled “Attention Employees” I thought I’d share some advice for “employees” as it relates to their employer.

Don’t ever think your relationship with your employer is more than a business transaction or think that you should behave a certain way just because the employer asks for it. You can and should work hard and be positive, but know that the company may eliminate your position at any time.

Don’t get caught up when leadership tries to sell you on a “mission” or higher purpose. Those days of committing to a company for life are gone.

This original post has that tone of expecting employees to behave a certain way just because they say so and expect it. The problem is they’re laying off people in mass which destroyed that mutual trust for the people left behind.

I agree with the part about poisoning the well and it’s not emotionally healthy for people to dwell on the negativity, but leadership expecting people to not talk on forums like this outside of the company was lost when they decided to destroy trust with layoffs.

Layoffs probably were the right business decision, but there are still consequences.

I am shocked to read in this post that employees have tried to bully their leaders as USAA leaders have been bullying their employees for years - doesn’t feel too good being on the receiving end, does it? The OP also must have not read the open letter to the Board because if they did then they would have to admit that even that thoughtful and well written letter fell on deaf ears and if that got dismissed then what could trump that to make leadership take notice and want to take meaningful action?

This post is a great attempt to save face and deter employees from posting but employees need an outlet and it is not for you to say what it should be - workplace psychological safety is obviously lacking. Did anyone else notice all the alarming up arrows on the post?

And while this site may be toxic, but if the employees posting are already disengaged then you missed that opportunity and that is on you. You can’t keep them all engaged, but if you have to come here and defend and threaten, that signals you are losing the battle and now you are on the defensive.

In the end, it is a balance - the mission, members, and employees and for the sake of keeping it all balanced, I sure do hope senior management can get it together - the public is noticing and watching.

Looks like USAA’s HR is now posting on this site. Sorry (USAA HR), unlike Pulse, you cannot manipulate this site. Good, bad or indifferent, comments made here are TRUE employee sentiments. No FAKE mission moments here!!!

Somebody needs to print out these threads and put them in the USAA time capsule next to the OCC consent order, the Compliance Week articles, and the tiny cake that was made for the 101st birthday celebration.

Now someone is just dropping comments to make us look like po-n addicts who are always working from home high. Not that I have anything against those things, but I am a professional when I work from home. You’re just trying to smear us.

If you’re a USAA leader, you’re an id--t for posting here. If you’re a troll… well done I guess.

Hahahah cmon guys. It’s generated by AI, such as ChatGPT. You can legit regenerate similar post like this by using a prompt like this: “ You’re the chief human resource officer. Company employees have been complaining about the company’s operations on a public online forum. Write a open letter to the employees that discourages and suggests them to stop engaging on the public forum.”

Don’t fall for a distraction that people post on here and stay the course.

The only way I could function before I left was drinking beer and smoking weed while I was chained to the head set. So the easiest way to have gotten rid of me would have been a dr-g test rather than some made up PIP mental torture. I was literally a high performer who carried the team.

If employees trusted internal channels they would provide feedback there. It’s only in the past 9 months that the external activity has increased. That’s YOUR job, to figure out what broke and fix it.

OP, thank you for finally revealing the true reason for RTO, and that you are possibly Wayne himself.

This happened when you used quotes in the phase: "work" from home.

If you thought people were not actually working from home, then you must have data about it, and that data could have been used to address the problems. Some call that having managers manage. Maybe that didn't happen. Perhaps managers don't manage or you don't have data.

If you really are an executive at USAA, I am glad to know you are here where truth can still be said.

OP can GFY. First, dear pathetic HR person, your whole group su-ks. We all know Pulse is a sham. As a matter of fact, HR have clearly stated to EMG the Pulse feedback was a driver in selecting individuals in groups affected by layoffs. If you were productive, but complained, bye-bye. If you su-ked, but gave high marks, you kept your job. Look around and see the who's left from affected groups. Smart people gone, and many id--ts spared. Please direct your feedback to Wayne's multimillion dollar beach house in Clearwater FL. Remember, you worked hard for him to afford it.

I don't know why the lack of empathy in this post surprised me, to be honest. I am so tired of being talked down to and not feeling valued. It must be lonely to be so much better than your others. For you (whoever you are) to come here and threaten people's jobs is beyond outrageous. I truly don't know what you hoped to accomplish. At least in my area, there is a total lack of trust in leadership/leaders already. I've been chided personally for very minor recommendations I've made on pulse and still seen no improvements. And no, expecting leadership to maintain even a pretense of the core values of honesty and integrity regarding RTO is not bullying. Get over yourself.

Execs you own the layoffs, unempathetic RTO, micromanagement culture, spreading people thin.. what do you expect of morale?

Address the morale and unaddressed pulse feedback and I'm sure people will come here less. But don't try to kick it down.

“We take all Pulse feedback seriously and encourage you take better advantage to share with leaders any inefficiencies or opportunities to streamline our business lines.”

You could have stopped there. This is the exact type of gaslighting from USAA that employees on here have been expressing. If USAA took Pulse feedback seriously, RTO wouldn’t be happening as it is.

Listening to employees and taking action based on feedback are two entirely different things.

Unless the feedback is something like “The refrigerator in the 2nd floor break room doesn’t work” or “the headsets you provided pick up background noises,” the feedback employees provide goes in one ear and out the other. Wayne’s leadership is dictatorial and every leader from front-line managers to executive council members have to fall in line with what the Peacock says.

Wayne’s taking advantage of his time at the top and is exercising every bit of power he has while he’s there. The employees here aren’t the problem, though some take it too far. There are too many keyboard warriors on this site.

There is a virus infecting USAA, impacting employees and members alike. The employees expressing their discontent here is a symptom of that virus, not the virus itself.

If USAA listened to employees, employee sentiment wouldn’t be in the 30% range. Full stop. There’s no amount of HR-approved verbiage and placating that will change that simple fact.
