Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

September Layoffs

Something big is coming up, all the staff VPs are tensed and doesn’t make sense in town Hall meetings.

Do people in leadership posistions in here have any updates ?

There is no point in trashing this place, calling it a clown show... It is what it is. Those who have had careers in best-in-class organizations prior to coming here, are lucky to have had the chance to gain highly sout after skills. So what if you get cut from this place, you will be back to work soon. This industry is on he cusp of real change, it is not sustainable in its current model. Take your servence, say thank you, and get back to where you left off. The ones that are left will have to live under constant fear of layoff and pick up the work you were doing. Put it in your rear view mirror!

G-yle is cut from the UHG cloth. It’s as simple as that. Elevance=UHG and Carelon=Optum. Playbook is the same and the outcomes are similar.

No need to get personal and juvenile. The board wanted UHG results and G-yle is delivering.

What happened to your 2:30 meeting ? @5ngv

This is all a shell game. They move people and positions around to be able to adjust budgets. If they cared about the work being done, they wouldn’t be cutting support positions. Carelon and offshore are major issues for our progress.
Our CEO, is not the man for the job.

@5rmc+1oCCYtTZ Anyone who has been around here long enough can tell you what a clown show this place has become. Upper management has no real direction and resorts to constant reorganizations. I have had probably 5 different managers in the last 7 years or less. Cant even keep track of how many Directors. It’s a rudderless ship. The only thing consistent with this place are the RIFs and reorgs.

Well whatever happens to me. I have no complaints. I came from Fintech a few years ago, this has been a gift, easy work for the money and no accountability. Most of the people are ok, with the exception of a few aggressive and dishonest people. But that is everywhere. It's been great!

Thank goodness for this site. There's people at work that seem totally oblivious to what's happening or about to happen. No matter what, it looks like it's time to look elsewhere. Too unstable here.

Like the previous post stated. The Leader will pull impacted associate into a call, HR will join, review the severance package, and then the call will end…all within 15 min.

I am a people leader and we will be doing it as on demand. Ping associate with Teams and then get them on a call and deliver the message with HR.

With the amount of RIFs potentially happening tomorrow, I can’t imagine they will all be done via Teams meetings with a manager and HR. Any word yet f they will just be sending emails out?

If you are part of any data management, then you should be worried. This is going to be big.

Do not tell HR you are going to retire if you get RIF/laid off. If you do, severance is off the table. If you get laid off and do not say you are going to retire, after the severance period if you are retirement eligible, HR will put you into retirement at that time.

Let me try to answer several questions that I have seen posted, sorry for the length...

  • layoffs that are attached to some name/codewords, normally have been for large outsourcing of jobs (think IT jobs to IBM years ago, 3 yrs ago more jobs to big blue, and then recently the 1400 claims) sorry I do not have the names for each of those. Those codewords are usually the name of a project.
  • in the past group notification has been for outsourcing of jobs, when not out sourced they are impromptu 1x1s from your mgr. Then when you get on you wait for a special guest from HR
  • I was part of outsourcing 3 yrs ago to big blue. An invite to lots of people was sent out including names that I looked up that were HR folks. A following email/invite was an email DL which for a short time was open to anyone to see, it contained those affected. Someone got a clue and hid that. Then the emails/invites after that folks were BCC'd
  • retirement age is 55 yrs or older and 10+ years of servcie
  • as to the severance pkg, go to home page in browser on company computer, you can search for the word severance or look for Supplemental Unemployment Benefit Plan. You may want to look at the Excess Termination Benefit Plan. That one is not for everyone
  • note if you are at you will be 62 or older during your severance period there may different rules that apply to you
  • retirement package does offer you the option of buying insurance. Last I saw the price was not cheap
  • COBRA is available to all laid off folks. This can last 18 months and by law companies are allowed to charge you 102% of the cost.
  • as stated on another thread on this site, changes to medicare/medicaid are going to impact revenue in 2024 so changes are happening now
  • I have heard that 7x7 is about span of control. Think less levels of mgmt and possibly not as many people reporting to a mgr

Severance, if you are below a 14, it's 4 weeks base + 1.5 weeks for each year of employment, if you are a 14 or higher it's 8 weeks base + 1.5 weeks. Based on what i've been hearing, 5k is on the low end as I've heard it's between 10-20%.

I don't know how they will do that many in one day frankly. Good luck everyone.

@5nvb+1oCCYtTZ It is in line with what I have been hearing for a couple months. It started with the reporting team and some National managers. I was told late July that there would be Sept layoffs but I didn’t know it would be to this extent. I guess we don’t know for sure and will find out tomorrow. I do know that tomorrow is not the end of it and these will continue into January. Maybe the 5000 number is now until January, but I heard the initial round would be huge.

What is 7x7? How to know if you are retirement eligible? Is it a factor of years of service combined with age? Will retirement package provide insurance? More details for those who didn't consider retirement so soon.

@5zlj+1oCCYtTZ I believe it is 1.5 weeks full pay per year of service. Max benefit is 26 weeks. You have to file for unemployment and Elevance pays the difference up to your full salary.

How many millions of dollars did they spend to rebrand to a made up word for no reason? How many thousands of dollars are spent feeding people at pulse points every day that nobody even wants to go to? Gail still getting paid her 14 million dollars a year.. all while we are underpaid, over worked, and under appreciated.

How have they gotten away with no WARN notice in any state of it’s going to be this big? And how has this not been leaked to the news or a journalist? Force them into having to make a statement? There’s so many views of this thread and so many comments! So many people talking about it internally within their teams too.

Even if you don’t get RIFd Thursday, there is always next month, or the month after, or next year. The only thing consistent with this place are the RIFs and constant reorganizations. Elevance is a complete joke of a company.

Guess there will be many yellow circles on MS Teams this Thursday. What boggles my mind is how hard people appear to be working this week. For what? Even if we don't get RIF'D we're still going to absorb the work of all the people who were. You're almost better off getting RIF'D.
