Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Work before Covid

Remember work before Covid-19? Get up, take a shower, get dressed, drive to the office, get coffee with coworkers, sit down, do some work, attend meetings, go to lunch in cafe or at restaurant, come back, work, drive home, have dinner, family, sleep, repeat.

Class traitor. I bet you think that taking their side will save your job. Such a naive bumpkin.

We have showers in our office. Why not shower on the clock.

You will commute in Atlanta traffic for hours and no seat for you at the office building. Similar to Dallas.

RTO is better than pre-covid. Pre-covid I was in the office five days a week as part of that workforce2020/collaboration initiative. With RTO I am in the exact same office and exact same cubicle but I only have to be there three days a week. Life is better for me.

When I had 5 more vacation days that I could use whenever I wanted. Appreciate day after Thanksgiving off, tho, after 30yrs of having to jockey to get it as PTO.

Nope, been working from home all 12 years while with AT&T. I Never worked a full day from any office, and then AT&T closed all the offices in my area to save money... JUST for them to reopen one so we can "return to the office" we never worked at.

Since 2007 we just bought our on supplies. No big deal on our salaries.

"Let me address your points…

Drive to the office - 2 hour commutes su-k. "

Personally, I would not take a shower or get dressed.

Let me address your points…

Drive to the office - 2 hour commutes su-k.
Coffee with coworkers - none left. Team surplused or forced retirement.
Do some work - Maybe I could if I had a place to sit down with a couple monitors.
Attend meetings - With who? See point #2.
Go to lunch - That would be nice, if I could afford it. Have you seen the Dallas cafe?
Come back - Now thats just a bad idea.
More work - How? I'm still trying to catchup on email on this tiny laptop screen.
Drive home - Oh joy. Another 2 hour commute.
Have dinner - At 8pm?!?
Family - Sorry. Too tired after dealing with AT&Ts cr-p.
Sleep - More like a coma, really.
Repeat - Maybe I will get lucky and die in my sleep.

This should say “Work After COViD” because for many of us, it is not a RTO…. It is GTO, go to office.
For you who were not Virtual before COViD then it is RTO.

If office was local and not 2 hours one way, I would not have an issue. It is difficult to have a 4 hour commute and then work 8 to 10 hours.

Many are worse off, or no longer get have a job, so I am grateful to even be employed, but am looking for something closer as this is not sustainable.

Ok, you have to be a lifer but, does anyone remember when you could go to the group secretary and get office supplies like pens and paper to write on, that the company actually provided?

I do remember those days. Our group secretary was miles away and there was only one for our district, but when we had a meeting we would get supplies.
Now we have to ration or borrow supplies like fiber optic jumpers to complete orders.

AT&T. It is almost a derogatory term these days.

I also worked from home before Covid, but don't mind going into the office either. I also don't remember the Good Old Days of having to commute 1300 miles to my new office when there's already one where I live.

Yep, and remember when we all signed up for the gig where the company provided desks and cubicles, so they at least valued us enough to give us a 5'x5' space to focus on work?
