Rumor of layoffs this week

Any truth to the layoff rumor this week (Aug 14-18)? What areas are being impacted?

Think an ED might have been chopped. Yesterday we were told they were on ‘leave’ till September. Before that all their meetings were cancelled. Seems suspicious.

@gst+1o7a34co Not directed at you, but “RIF exercise” is such a bullsh-t HR way of saying “laying people off in the worst job market in a decade.”

It’s a way for those making the decisions to talk about what they’re doing without feeling the weight of it.

It’s yet another reason I hate this regime. You have to really actively listen to the words that they say and their true meanings or they might go over your head. The constant need to read between the lines is exhausting.

They’ll get up on stage and say something like “After a recent RIF exercise, we saw a marginal improvement in quarterly profits.” They’ll sandwich that in with some positive moves they made to not draw attention to it. Someone not paying close attention may not realize they’re talking about layoffs and just hear that profits increased. They weasel in new politically correct, “soft” verbiage that passed a focus group so they can save face.

Someone like Jim Syring (just using him as an example, could be any leader who talks candidly and transparently) would say “We had to make a tough decision this week. We had to eliminate X department and Y number of employees were impacted. Please know that we are ensuring that we are taking care of them with severance and transition assistance and blah blah blah.”

It su-ks either way, but one is unambiguous and the other is laced in doublespeak.
