but there is way to many layers of management @ the Death Star.

This is funny. In my many decades at the company, I cannot count the number of times I've heard "we are flattening the business and removing levels." Sure, and every time a year went by and those levels popped right back, like those fat cells around your midsection do after you diet them away.

Management at every level has sacrificed everything on the alter of “Numbers”. They have sacrificed customer service for a meaningless number. They have sacrificed our plant and facilities for a meaningless number. They have sacrificed employee morale for a meaningless number. They have sacrificed customer loyalty for a meaningless number. They have sacrificed employee pride for a meaningless number. Looking good on paper is all that matters to managers today.

“ We lacked vision and allowed t-mobile to outfox us. They were nothing and they beat us”

That’s what happens when you spend all your money on sales and marketing party budgets and never funding service/support/engineering functions that fix the problems, improve the service and innovate. Seriously those service/support/engineering groups have had $0 funding for at least 10+ years.

Assess, rationalize, and adjust employee counts, which includes diversification of age and seniority, to meet the needs of an ever changing business need.
