Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Anxiety and depression

Is it just me, or does it seem that anxiety and depression are on the rise among T employees? It's sad how we have all accepted that having our mental health ruined by work is normal and part of life. I've been here long enough to know that there was a time when that wasn't true.

I take medicinal pot at work. That seems to help.

I was with the company for 6+ years. Worked my way up from retail duties to working downtown. I was happy with the company, no matter what anyone said. I did my part and took care of all my customers, even the ones from day one, I would go out of my way to connect them with someone to assist them. Being honest really did go a long way. Never once did I have to follow the trends of misleading my customers.

I always told myself I was replaceable and was just a number, no matter how hard I worked. I was right. I was surplused 8/5. Maybe this was a sign for me to take what was offered to me to leave and being somewhere where I really do matter. It su-ks for all the time invested , but not everyone gets the opportunity to go out this way in the company.

I was surplussed on July 21, I have a lot of anxiety about finding a new job, but I have a lot of relief, knowing I don’t have to worry about the yearly layoffs and reorgs that take place far too often these days. It feels like a huge weight off my shoulders.

Some pseudo macho clown typed: "Su-k it up buttercup." so now we can see what a tough man he is. I just love it when people try to play tough.

To the OP I’m with you. The last couple of months have been very hard. Two decades of loyalty to be stabbed in the front. Zero motivation. I’ve been looking outside and it looks bleak. I’m experiencing health issues and a complete loss in interest in life while having to provide for the family. I know this will pass but while you are in the storm is no fun. I’m trying to take it day by day while weathering this storm. You are not alone. We may even be on calls together and not know but know there are others who otherwise have everything put together but are feeling the same.

“I’m willing to bet everyone on these threads telling people to sU-K iT uP and that they’re happier with RTO don’t have a 3+ hour cumulative daily commute like some of us.”

Your correct most people do not have a 3 hr commute to there pre COVID office e.

If you are facing symptoms of anxiety and depression, you are the ideal candidate for RTO. You should have more regular monitoring with fellow coworkers to help keep an eye on you.

How would you know? You can guess but you can't know, and you can't base it off random comments on this board because half the people are playing a part.

You can't even tell from genuine people airing their grievances, The only way to tell would be genuine physical people you interact with on a daily basis and even then You can't diagnose

Going to be a lot of job openings and opportunities soon. Already getting emails from recruiters that are obvious ATT jobs. Use that to your advantage. Other than that, yeah I do not like coming into the office. To the people saying they work less, yes I’m working my 9-5 and that’s it, so less hours. However, the reality is, I’m having to get up earlier, drive in, drive home and then deal with a lot more things with less time. plus my costs are way up, gas, car maintenance, food, etc. as a result. Yeah that’s whining a bit, but my quality of life has gone way down. And it’s very draining to have to go to the office, sit and talk to no one since I have no one to collaborate with. I was FTW long before covid since my job has me working with people all over the country. Makes no sense to be in the office for me.

Been going back into the office for a few months now, to get back into the routine prior to COVID. Sure, I was dreading it at first, even angry for this announcement for RTO.

Then I realized something. It wasn't too bad. It was great to see other employees, sharing their experiences. Also ran into colleagues from previous projects.

I realized that I was much more depressed during the COVID lockdowns when working at home. I was actually working MUCH more hours at home. I think about that and realized it was such a fool to do that. Working more hours at home was making me depressed.

Having to go into the office has switched my priorities. Don't worry about work anymore, it'll still be there tomorrow. Appreciate being at home and unplug.

Probably not the popular opinion on this board.

go into the office 3 days a week and a paycheck comes twice a month.... It's not that hard.

If you think this is bad, just wait and see what happens when people realize suddenly that their money is worthless. You will be double depressed to realize you worked for nothing. It isn’t a matter of if it happens, only when. Thank the id--t CLevels, but mostly thank the Central Bankers.

"So yeah it is just you."

Stankey, what on earth are you doing on here so early? Shouldn't you be busy buying a company for too much, or spinning one off for too little?

I agree with other commenter it is just you. I live in Dallas and I know my job is secure more than ever as there are people in other cities that don’t want to comply and come to Atlanta or Dallas and will be surplussed. I am very happy in office and I know some others in Dallas who are not happy driving to work and may also leave or be tagged for non-compliance and be put on surplus list. So I am secure and happy and have zero problem with doing a commute to office like most people in America to get a healthy paycheck and benefits.

So yeah it is just you.

If the TMo and Time Warner mistakes never took place, the company, shareholder and employees would be in a much better place.
Unfortunately, there’s not much that can be done. The mistakes were made and we have to live with the consequences.
Don’t let it impact your mental health. Especially if you were fortunate enough to keep your job.
I have mine for now but my leadership definitely doesn’t appreciate me. My immediate boss does but we have a VP that ignores our area completely — yet we contribute to his org in so many ways.
In our group we’ve coke to realize, we’re nothing to him but we’re glad for our paycheck and benefits. At first this really bothered me and many others including pretty high levels. But now we’re just like, “our VP could care less about us and just wants to be seen by his EVP of ACE or higher — not even his SVP who is a she.
Bottom line - rose above - be grateful for what you do have.

For those who are losing/have lost jobs, keep the faith and will keep in prayers.
