I get that this board is called 'layoff.com'. It makes sense to want to know about a layoff hitting your dept before it happens. But what good does it do you to know that someone in a different dept got laid off today?
Take today (8/8) for example. There's a post about 8 people in customer service getting axed. If you're one of those 8 people, then you obviously already know. If you're in an unrelated role, then how does knowing about 8 people in some other dept help you?

#1 reason-We are reduced to rumors and this site because we have a top-down lack of communication at this company. We want to understand what is going on and where we are headed, but it isn’t being shared. Look at Teamworks and tell me what percent is actually work-related information being shared vs. political propaganda!

I have empathy for those who need this job regardless of how much it might su-k so to those people please excuse my above response. Some other people may actually welcome a layoff which at least ends the trauma. But the most important thing for the OP to understand is... you are a mo--n. Keeping an eye on things is regardless of your LOB just makes sense.

Because no one reports on what concerns me today, except this small forum. No reports on layoffs, no reports on American workers.
Everyone just wants more H1-B visa, more immigration reform, more quota for China and then more quota for India. It is piling onto my misfortune and where is my own American dream besides paying taxes for theirs?

So you get that this board is layoff.com but you don't understand why people want to know who, what, how many are being laid off? I'm sorry but I am not following your logic.
The reason people want to know who/what areas were affected is to try and read the tea leaves on weather or not they might get axed. If data is correct on here (and unfortunately, it rarely is until after the fact) then you can roughly paint a picture of future layoffs in ones group.
At least that is why I originally came here.

OP, feel free to keep your head in the sand. The rest of us like to know what's going on -- to spot trends, better understand WF micro-strategies, etc.
It's good to know what is going on within the company as a whole. Although, I was not affected, information I have gotten from this site has clarified changes in departments I worked for, currently and previously.
Also, you never know when it will be your turn. Better to be somewhat prepared than to be completely blindsided.
WF is a massive bureaucracy and visibility from one organization to another is nearly non-existent. Senior leadership rarely discusses displacements with the entire audience so this site is a sort of sneakernet to get the word out as to how many were let go and within which groups.

Your response isn't adding up though. If you look at today's posts, none of them are people asking for emotional support - quite the opposite in fact. People are just leaving very short posts about # of people and dept name.

Man, people just want to know the situation around the company. Imagine being so far removed from basic human emotions that you can't comprehend reaching out for support and understanding in a difficult time. It's 100% natural to want to come to a board like this and rant or just to know that you're not alone in what you're dealing with
