I understand that everyone is fed up with this place, but is it really so bad that people can't wait to be laid off? If so, then what are you still doing here, why not just leave? Such a mindset is demeaning to those of us who, despite everything, are still trying to keep our jobs.

"Some of these guys have over a million in pension and 401k combined and still want more, leaving less for the younger ones."
@alh, you say that like $1M is a lot.
If I only had $1M b/w those 2 things I'd have to work until I'm 80.
You need to do some real arithmetic around retirement, son. Even cat food is expensive these days.
Seeing some very long tenured employees that cheerleaded the company for decades get two weeks notice with dishearten even the seasoned cheerleaders. That illusion of loyalty will vanish quickly. For me, I’m looking for something better, I’m a free agent.
Yes, it really is that bad. Waiting for severance instead of just quitting is about 6 months pay over no pay.
Pay me severance and show me the exit door

Dude, you answered your own question. People want to be laid off to get money for it! I just did. Definitely feels better than just quitting.
Dude, you'll find this everywhere, not just AT&T. I know, it's frustrating when you realize that you aren't able to control everyone in life. Feel better.
Put in 11 years, worked OT every week. Checked in on my VPs on the weekends and for what? Thank you but who's going to take care of me now as I get my walking papers. D**n right I'm holding our for severance and no not telling all my secrets. No respect for employees doing above & beyond.
If how others choose to stay or leave is demeaning to you and your job, you have serious mental health issues that need to be addressed. How others walk through their career should not concern you or be any of your business. Put your eyes back on your work and leave those around you alone. My god the weakness in this country is mind boggling. By a show of hands, how many think T should provide a “safe space” at your work location?
Look I am still here and I still do a good job. I know this because, well, I’m still here. 25 plus years.
I don’t want to be here anymore. I’m ready to go. I’m sick of all bad news, and all doom and gloom all of the time. I have friends that actually enjoy their jobs, and it occurs to me it has been many years since that was the case for me. I don’t have as much in retirement as some, but over a million in my early 50’s, so not too bad. My skills are current. I have a degree and a lot left to offer. I am confident I could land another job pretty quickly.
I want my severance and I will go. So do another MVO. You’ll get plenty of takers like me that have just had enough. I want my severance because I feel it’s owed to me. And I’ve got a kid in college.
But they won’t just do an MVO. Instead, they want to mess around with people. So, I am digging my heels in.
What is truly disrespectful is how the employees of this company are being treated! Years of service and dedication to the company only to get screwed over year after year. The executive spout off about how employees are there, biggest assets, then weeks later we have to live our purpose. They have also preached about trust and transparency. And bold face lie to all of us on every Townhall. Executives ignore that many of us have purposes and families outside of AT&T in our local communities. Remember when AT&T cared about where we Work, Live and Play? Now they want to dictate where it is we live.
Why would anyone leave without severance…the ppl asking these questions is a a mo--n.
But those pensions are basically all funded. Made that way from the years of service given by older employees who made this company so profitable for so long. Our latest generation of leaders have wrecked it all, so the least they could do is pay our our pension and severance before they get their multimillion dollar golden parachute...
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see the younger workers get screwed over either. I'm glad to see that they are fighting for what they should get, But it should not come at the cost of what the old guard was promised and what they have done for the company.
Put in 20, 30, 40 years of effort then see how you feel...
I kind of get what you're saying, it's just not worded right or received well. There are those among us and in the office who are absolutely devastated. They may not love their job every day, but it's better than some alternatives. Then there's the spiteful ones who are trash-talking, think they deserve every dollar and then some, and insult anyone who doesn't have enough in the bank to tell the job to pi-s off.
" Some of these guys have over a million in pension and 401k combined and still want more, leaving less for the younger ones."
AT&T would have done better to cap the pension for some. After seeing how much some have JUST in pension, I don't see how it's sustainable. Maybe back before there were 401k it made sense, especially for blue-collar guys who weren't going to be able to save much for retirement on their own, but some of the eye-popping ones will sink AT&T if there's a rush on lump sums. The amount some groups used to pay is insane. But my 401k is mine. I put most of it in there, and company match is pretty much the same for everyone.
" Some of these guys have over a million in pension and 401k combined and still want more, leaving less for the younger ones."
Sorry little Jimmy, not everyone gets a trophy in the real world.
You do realize 401k and pension is not offset by the amount a co-worker contributes? It's not a fixed pot of money to share amongst everyone. Also, one million is NOT enough for a decent retirement anymore. Most management with < 20 years are on their own for retirement.
because i worked my A55 off for 20 years and i want my severance
I'm trying to. I need to get a new job first. I don't even care for the severance if it means sticking around a sinking Titantic for a year.
I kind of agree with OP. Some of these guys have over a million in pension and 401k combined and still want more, leaving less for the younger ones. At the same time, I also understand if you were promised a pension and benefits for longevity and now they changed the rules on you, what's a year or two more to collect that severance.
"why not just leave?"
Because we're smart enough to play the game and extract every cent we can from them, just like they try to extract every bit of labor they can from us.
Are you in 3rd grade? You don't seem to have an adult understanding of economics.
What a fkn troll.. OP sounds a lot like somebody who is feeding off of existing accounts instead of generating new business and is perceived to be a ‘top performer’ though we all know adds no real value to T.
OP maybe you should leave if you think we are disrespectful.
OP Is either one of those who believes is a high performer.. or troll
Everyone hates this company but doesnt leave. They need to get pushed out
Executive management has proven they don't give a sh!t about the employees what so ever. And this has nothing to do with RTO, but it has everything to do with the way we're all just an F'ing number anymore. Perhaps you need to see "disrespectful" in the perspective of a demeaning work environment that has been created by the clowns at the top. A lot of people have put a lot of work into this company over the decades and now the appreciation is evident. OP GFYS !
Or being held hostage because they have us waiting on a severance letter with no eta
well, you can't just leave w/o a new job in place.
