Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Who else was confronted by their direct manager about their WFH attendance?

My manager reached out to me and let me know that my attendance numbers and that they have not been up to par. Who else has had their direct manager confront them? Honestly, I work with all vendors. Some onshore (in other states) and some offshore (India). I don't have any team members that work with me in my office. So yeah I've communicated this and I honestly am hoping for a nice severance if they keep pushing this BS return to the office for those that are in Webex meetings all day.

Oh look, another bunch of attention seeking 5 day office "workers" implying remote = lazy. You're just wasting your time, we all know what goes on in CECs and it's not a lot of work. The jig is up, now go take another turn grabbing a little prize at the snack cart.

It's true that badge swipes are tracked and VPs see reports. They are not necessarily actively monitoring daily or weekly, but high level office attendance data has already been used as a key data point for specific office closures for cost cutting.

If you don't RTO, expect compensation and bonus participation to be reduced. You are not special and the work you do can be done by someone with better credentials and education for less also remote without benefits.

Follow the rules or GTFO. You are free to find an employer who will accommodate your WFH request.

I'm in network operations. Our team was told we are one of very few that do not have a return to office attendance problem. So, there's a degree of validation that they are pulling numbers at least at a high level then trickle down.

Please reply to this thread if your manager has spoken to you or team about retuning to office attendance reviews or evaluation.

If you're classified as a 100% remote employee then you shouldn't be in an office. The fact you're being approached by your manager about your RTO numbers tells me you're prob hybrid and you should be adhering to the RTO policy set forth by the company. But if you are 100% remote then your manager is incompetent. With that being said, no, I have not been approached by my direct manager as I'm following RTO policy.

It's not about skillsets. Everyone is replaceable and your skills aren't as special as you think they are. The company can replace you with someone who works in an office if your leadership chooses to enforce policy. We simply have a policy that requires hybrid office/WFH arrangements, period. That said, to be clear, my comments aren't about the merits of remote work. I love WFH and would love to have a job doing it full time. I believe we can be just as productive at home as we are in the office, especially now that the company's degrading focus on its people is eroding what was once an amazing in-office culture.

Wonder how many remote workers who don't have AC in their houses (e.g., Bellevue area) are going to the office to cool off?

Good, I’m only still here to get that severance. If WFH gets me there then I’ll just keep sitting here watching Dr Phil and smoking the ganja. Enjoy shilling for free, Mikey likes it when his employees go after one another. It’s a great distraction from the sh-t decisions he’s making.

time to fire all WFH people. Why should they get to sit on their fat ar-e watch Dr. Phil and smoke weed all day when we have to take up their slack in the office. It's not fair and is Deanne and Mike read this blog...be warned....the people who have been picking up the slack are going to quit if this is not corrected.

Agree with you. This company is toxic. They are only doing this to try to get people to voluntarily quit. Don’t give them what they want. They lay off several coworkers, have most of us doing several peoples workload, people are located in different countries and states, have no team members to partner with in office and fears of being laid off ourselves. The absolute worst company culture. They do not listen to or value employees at all anymore.

If you are 1) remote, 2) have a whole team that’s remote, or 3) have bad attendance, expect to get laid off in Sept/Oct.

Policy requires hybrid arrangements except those with approved medical exceptions. Across the board, enterprise wide. The problem is that many offices have been shut down for cost savings, leaving employees without an office. So the policy is bullsh-t now. There also random non-medical exceptions, which results from weak or no enforcement. All that said, remote work IS work, period. Leaders should be managing to expected outcomes, not measuring physical presence. If you can't do this as a leader, you should be separated.

It's bonkers to me that people still buy into the "if you're not in an office, you're lazy", as if people are never checked out and wasting hours a day while in an office. I'm proud of my team's work and output...but also forced to tell my DRs if they need to increase in office presence (I hate 'attendance') to meet standards that were set far above my pay grade.

Since I pretty much come to the office 5 days a week, this isn't an issue. I have been since they reopened the offices in late 2021.
