Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

PENSION EDUCATION

Hello folks.

I ran across this YouTube Video submitted by The Retirement Group who specializes in Pension advice for corporations (in Particular AT&T).

WEB Link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSe3AFVTsPM

This is an excellent video summary and overview of AT&T Pensions and possible options.

Thought it might be of value to those of you are Pension Eligible and may possibly considering leaving soon with decisions to be made about your pension.

I retired back in 2018 with the Annuity Option. And for those of you who might not be aware, about 90,000 Retirees are having their Annuity Payment being transferred and managed by Athene.

AT&T performed a Pension Buy Out for this group of retirees.
I understand this may not impact those of you who are still working and are probably still administered by the AT&T Pension program (for now).

Good Luck

Did you watch the video, or just respond with the first useless opinion that came to mind? No financial advice offered. Helpful details about some of the pension plans from someone with experience working with these plans versus someone like yourself with nothing substantial to offer. OP, thanks for the link.

I keep coming back because it feels good seeing how the company is having so much problems after I left. They needed people like me more that they knew.

OP Here,

Exactly right to who posted this comment below. Could not have responded any better, Thank You. You also learn what changes are happening and I feel for those with 20+ years who are still working and no longer entitled to retiree medical benefits if they have leave.

Earlier Comment:

“The reason retirees still visit this site is because they may have former co-workers who still work for T and just care about them. There is also a curiosity as to whether or not they are better off now, having retired. Finally, it is likened to going back to visit the old neighborhood you spent so many years of your life at, wanting to see how it has changed.”

here is my advice.

get your lump sum as soon as possible and out of the hands of att and whoever they contract out to manage it.

you will be able to give it to your family when you pass away and it will make more money.

I wonder why comments have been turned off for the video. Too many bad comments about T?

OP in response to
"Hi. Did the change in pension management hurt your annuity in any way? Thanks"

Answer:
There is NO CHANGE in the Annuity Amount per correspondence received.
This will be confirmed in August.
A Welcome Kit from Athene is supposed to be sent out in July (This Month) to those impacted and the first monthly payments from Athene to occur in August.

Hi. Did the change in pension management hurt your annuity in any way?

It shouldn't. It's kind of like your mortgage being sold; you just might end up with a worse (or better?) servicer than before. Payments should remain the same.

I don’t get why people who retired still visit this site. I only learned of it recently because I’m impacted by the relocation. Once I’m gone, I’m gone and severing all ties to T including all their product and services.

I guess this info could be helpful for some but seriously why are you still thinking about AT&T? Have you no life outside retirement?
