Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Jumped over to T-Mobile wireless

I did BYOD AT&T phones and getting monthly service cheaper than the AT&T with an employee discount.
Most of my 8 line family members had phones paid off but one was still on a contract. T-Mobile paid us for breaking that contract.

Anybody with T-Mobile service coverage can jump off AT&T

Getting off the titanic now!

@1ugh+1noI6Qaa This is the way

Who wouldn’t buy their phones unlocked and outright? Especially employees!
Lets see… an iPhone 8 plus 256gb was around a grand in 2017… and say i got a good 5 year run out of it… that’s 200/year or under 20/month. And, because I didn’t do anything d-mb with it or hit it with a lawnmower or anything, the private sale resale went for a 1/3rd of what I paid for it. So, that’s a grand minus, 1/3rd, div by 5 div by 12… just over 11 bucks a month? Anyway just sayin.

T-mobile has better coverage where I live than AT&T. Maybe for others, Verizon has better coverage. As someone with less than 1 year left at the company, I don't care much what happens. I'm not doing any part to help AT&T add more wireless or fiber lines. Perhaps AT&T was #1 or 2 at some point because of the mutual respect between employer and employee; we are customers too after all. But after this debacle, AT&T can sink down to the bottom for all I care - because it's clear they do not.

I have 6 lines but 5 iphones still needs to be paid off under tradein , so if I switch then will lose trade in value

Kind of. I'm in a similar position, but with 8 lines, and 3 phones still have over $1000 left on installments, but they're getting credits. Switching would mean we have to pay them off. T-Mobile does appear to offer some kind of credit for these situations, but I believe it's up to $650 per line. Depending on everyone's specific situation, it might make sense to go for it, or wait a little and switch later, or not switch at all. Right now, our coverage with AT&T is good, I will need to test T-Mobile first, and some of my family members are in different states, and we will need to make sure it works for them too. I'm not worrying about it right now, but eventually, I'll be checking my options. Google Fi looks interesting too, and I hear Mint Mobile is pretty popular.

"I call BS as this was probably posted from the original OP from tMo-AT&T 5G drops constantly and is a terrible servic

The technology seamlessly hands-off to/from 5G to 4G & 4G to 5G" ...lol sure it does, just be sure that everytime your ATT phone drops 5G (which is VERY often) ...switch phone to airplane mode and then back and you might get back on 5G...seamlessly lol

I migrated our 5 lines from T to T-Mobile last year. Price paid is less than I had with the employee discount. No additional taxes, no administrative fee etc - everything is included. To top it off I get free AAA, free Netflix, and free Apple TV+ and fantastic service. Bandwidth is roughly 10x what I had with T, no dropped calls, no searching for service etc. and the web site works and is quick. Of course depending where you live one carrier may provide better coverage. I highly recommend T-Mobile.

I retired the end of last year-rather than take the pension hit & moved our 2 lines over to mint-mobile which is tmobile we did save a few dollars-you lose the 50% EMO discount when you go off payroll. We bought an RV and so far have traveled from NY down the east coast to Fl and west into MN, and the tmobile service and coverage was not as good as at&t, now I'm looking to try 1 line with visible which is verizon's prepaid to see how that compares

Years ago, about 2024, Sprint cost less than T with employee discount. Sprint free minutes started at 7pm while T started at 9pm. T offered 300 more anytime minutes (average 10 minutes per day). Calling friends and family after 9pm and those in different time zones will cost 600 extra minutes if careful. I went Sprint. Now Consumer Cellular and I call on free landline for long calls.

They paid me to payoff my phone and on top of the money I’m saving….you get a free subscription to Netflix and Apple TV. No brainer to me.

I jumped over in 2007 and have been happy with T-Mobile. Their customer service is friendly and doesn't lie like AT&T's Customer service. Big savings at the time I did it and grandfathered into a great plan. I found out if for needs of the business and you are on employee discount the company can pull your call records which pushed me over to T-Mobile.
