Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Be a man and tell the truth

I've been working remotely for the past 12 to13 years - a long damn time for sure. When Covid hit, the whole company followed suit for obvious reasons. During that time, one in which this country and company may never have seen the likes of, we as a workforce maintained a hyper-focus on our jobs and did what was necessary to masterfully maneuver this company through an unknown, dark period. It wasn't the C-level geniuses that did that, we did that - the people who for whatever reason now cannot be trusted to put in a full-days work, who need to collaborate with total strangers that have no clue or interest in what we do.

If this company can run, no thrive, in an environment where there are so many opportunities for distraction, why all of a sudden are things diametrically different? What changed? Well, we know what changed - NOTHING!

So, my point is this - don't be a coward, be a man and tell the truth. Tell us that the real reason for this RTO and move to a Centralized hub exercise is to eliminate people, not because of the ridiculous reasons that we just overwhelmingly proved to be inaccurate.

When we returned to the office we shared stressful drives and pi---d off employees, leadership suggested we buy ballon’s to motivate. We instead passed Covid among our peers and families with new cases every week. For almost 15 months. Our ballon loving leader still works at home caring only about herself years later. We were promised training and more collaboration. We’ve had two classes in two years both delivered virtually. With the unknown future of how and where we work I see the lower quality and bad attitudes on every floor of our dungeon and know it will worsen until they vacate this building and throw everything and everybody out while our WFH leader asked we keep her informed. I now agree with the post of prior employees “run or leave before it’s too late”

Lies and the lying liars which tell them. Lies, all lies. That's all you need to know. These liars won't change. Ever. Liars gonna lie. Don't expect different. These are scared little boys. Who lie.

"The interest rate on our $180 billion in debt has tripled"
That interest rate would apply to new debt, including debt that gets rolled over. But existing debt - no. That debt isn't on variable interest notes.

Interest rates are what changed. We are in the same pickle the Silicon Valley Bank was, just from the other side. The interest rate on our $180 billion in debt has tripled, and now we are in deep do----o. It is a shame the company can't just be honest and say so.

Not sure this is true. Long ago I remember reading something how the T debt is financed. It is not (or at the least all of it is not) subject to rising rates.

This company is not thriving. Not sure where you’re getting your information from but that statement is completely false.

Tell the truth, you really didn't work when you were "working" remotely. You were making Costco runs, mowing the lawn and other personal business. Nice while that lasted.

Truth is productivity went way down with remote work. Too many workers not working. Time to get back into the office and really work.

Hear, hear—well said OP.

The reasons, the memoranda, the shifting on again, off again all hands calls, and even the "return to work" moniker my management calls this are all insults.

We performed and now suddenly we need to collaborate? Balderdash. Man up.

Op 8is absolutely correct. Gutless Stankey is trying to cut heads by saying we need to work in offices in certain locations when that makes no sens
