Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What's coming?

I can't help but think that there is more that has been left in the dark. This is something I've never seen happen in my over 20 years here. VPs and AVPs not knowing... I think they may be setting the stage for an easier merge with another company. Amazon maybe? If Amazon buys AT&T it would be great for our stocks.

There is a lot in the news around this. Amazon wanting to offer wireless service and possible meetings with wireless carriers.

It’ll be divided up & sold in piece parts with debt spread accordingly (to lower the grand sum). Why else would they be intentionally running T into the abyss (other than hurting the middle class)?

Maybe, but probably not.

First, this is solely and completely a JS initiative with no prior planning. The guy is a combination of Putin, Trump, and a reptile lacking any kind of moral compass. I will bet fewer than 20 other high-ranking executives knew anything prior to the e-mail. Everyone is simply reacting in their own self-interest and based on edicts from above.

In regard to a total sale of the company there is simply too much debt and pension obligations (and I admittingly have a vested one) and too few organic profit-making growth opportunities.

It's a SNAFU! (WWII GI phrase). It's very hard to see how ends at all well.

This is easy to understand. The company has too much debt, they need to offload legacy services and associated employees, downsize services while the company shrinks to selling just a few services, and lastly, they need to buyback shares to get our outstanding shares more inline with Verizon….which is about 3billion shares to buyback.
This will not happen overnight but it’s what the path forward is and that will require far less employees.

Do you mean they wouldn’t be transparent?

No major company would touch T given its current debt load. T is simply just running out of road.
