Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What is going on?

back in 2020, AT&T closed down 250 of its physical stores. Now, it will be closing down another 320, according to the Communications Workers of America Union. The CWA said that these closures will lead to more than 1,600 job losses. AT&T has defended the total of 570 closures by saying it is “adjusting” its retail presence to “reflect” consumer “shopping practices.”

AT&T said that it always intended to focus more on online sales, as opposed to in-person store traffic. The retailer stated that the reason it was happening so quickly was that the retail apocalypse of 2020 accelerated the plans.

You answered your own question. Retail is dead. We can pass that liability to auth retailers instead of company stores.

The problem has always been with stank that he and the board are so out of touch that they always jump on the bandwagon at the trend's peak - and then take a massive hit for doing it. The home security market was already in the hands of Ring and others.. dtv, streaming, fiber expansion... retail stores.. even wifi capable video devices.. whatever - T was clearly in a position to do most of those first - but leadership failed hard. Stank and Randy were just admiring the success of the apple stores and thought they'd better copy that model quickly. Even the retail layout, etc.. direct copy of apple. Stank and the board should note - t is not apple (or google) and will never be.

I give them a pass on this one. They can't make people go to the stores a la "turn those machines back on".

In all the years of cell phone ownership, I think I've walked into a store twice. Once for a phone for my wife, the other for a replacement SIM. All the other times we needed new phones we had them shipped.

There are something like 8-10 AT&T stores within 15 minutes of my house. For the rare occasions I'd go to one, I simply don't need all those to exist.

And when I leave T soon and take my business to VZ or TMob, I most likely won't walk into their stores either.

I get that it st-nks for the employees but hey, all the shopping malls are closing for the same reason. T didn't create this trend.

So who’s paying you to post and agitate? Is it to generate ad revenue?
