Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

They want me to be grateful to have a job

A lot has already been said and written here about bad management, but their attitude that we should be grateful that we have a job never ceases to amaze me. Really??? They don't think we're so incompetent that we can't find any other option, do they? Many people are just afraid of a new beginning, so they are still there, otherwise they could find something much better.

complete freedom, free food & a place to live. OH, that's what the slaves were told. I thankful that I only get beat once a week.

1 more year, modified rule of 75. Drop modification & I'm gone now.

In truth, I am grateful to be employed, but if they think I'm not looking and throttling back while I do it, they are crazy. Walked out of my office yesterday and ran into an engineer- you know, they guys that actually keep the wheels on the network bus. He basically told me it is a miracle right now, with all the layoffs, that they can keep the network running. What do you think will happen when they get their move orders. Customers are noticing too. I had one customer tell me that it seems to him outages are more frequent now. I heard another engineer complaining about issues being stacked up, and that they can't handle the number of problems efficiently that are hitting their desks. Buckle up folks! It's going to be a very bumpy ride.

Leadership knows 90% of T employees aren’t going anywhere until forced to leave.

Working here really feels like I’ve sold my soul to the devil.

We are still here, so of course this is the current attitude.

I think it boils down to most people have the golden pension handcuffs and they think they can treat you however they want because those people aren’t going to leave. Which is true for older and more senior employees, not so for the younger/newer employees over the past 8 years. We don’t have a pension which makes us mobile. I’ll bounce as soon as I don’t like what they are doing and/or something better comes along. I can tell you, I’m already interviewing at places. I have been a top performer and earned many high level awards. That’s ok though, I can always go some place else. I was hoping to stick around, but I’ve seen this place go from good to bad to worse to omg really? I think it’s time to move on for me, I’ll take my 401k and bounce. Good luck to those staying.

Wait until all of the loyal old school employees are gone, and they’re left with the new generation who value them, like they do us.

The young employees don’t stay at companies, they leave in a blind of an eye to the next company who gives them a dollar raise.

"Many people are just afraid of a new beginning"

It's this, and also, as I'm now realizing, the one thing that makes it feel at least a little bit good, but in reality is nothing but a tool to keep people hostage... severance. I mean, it's great that they give it to us, but it also keeps so many of us from just leaving. If there was no severance offered, I think lots of people would just be quitting, and AT&T would completely fall apart quickly. But we're sitting and waiting, and keep taking abuse knowing that while we want to get out, we won't without that severance (and to some, to a lesser extent, retirement). How many great opportunities were missed over the years because of that?
