Does an “inconsistently meets” ki-l internal transfers?

I’m in a cannot win job right now and am expecting a “inconsistently meets” this month. Does this make laterals impossible? I’ve done great until
I took on this role two years ago. I was always exceeds, even in harder roles here. I don’t want to waste my time if I just need to leave.

You should be fine. But YMMV. I got thrown under the bus a few years ago by BS that showed up on my review and nobody said sh@t about it until my review. It was total BS. I applied for a different job, got it and then ended up with meets at eoy from my new boss It helped that I had a bunch of expertise for the new job and knew a few people there. I don’t think the hiring leader can even see your mid year until you move. Now your current boss might trash you if the hiring manager asks. But I already tell the recruiter that my boss doesn’t know and want to keep confidential.

The bigger question is why would you want to stay? Lateral moves are hard. They prefer outsiders. The chances of improving your situation in another area are not likely. Find an exit strategy that works for you.

If you have charisma they won't like you. Only the bland people that don't make them feel inadequate.

I did a great job on a team and the manager blocked me from moving forward just because his manager didn't like me for some reason. It happens. Especially with the females.

They can't endorse anyone just a bit different to themselves. It's all based on consensus. So, 1 person has something personal against you and tells everyone else not to hire you. WF are all sheep. They follow instead of lead. OP, people don't get jobs here for being good, it's being in the in crowd and knowing the right people. So many catty you know what's here.

If you don't majorly suck up to those fragile egos, if you wear the wrong color shirt, you are in shape, good looking, you get a not great informal reference.

So many catty people here. Who knows what people say about others.

@1gwz+1njlv6ju True. You can't please everyone, especially here.

In competition. Spellcheck changed it.

@1tgs+1njlv6ju. How can anyone check on "informal" references and be sure they are unbiased if people are jealous, in completion, etc?

Change of policy recently - the hiring manager can NOT be told the performance rating by the recruiter or the current manager.

Recruiters don’t have access to the info and the current manager is prohibited from disclosing it.

So OP - no it won’t impede you as long as your ‘informal’ references are good (meaning, someone checks around for people who have worked with you and gets good word)

I had an inconsistent rating in 2021 and took that as my cue to move on. Took a few months for an interesting job to come up, but I was able to move. The interviewer told me after I started the new position that they were aware I had an inconsistent rating but they felt confident, and my old manager told them he didn't agree with my rating. So yes it is possible to make an internal move.

7 years here and no promotion. I’ve been promised an off cycle promotion this year, possibly happening anytime now, but not holding my breath. I’m out of here after the next bonus if it doesn’t happen. I have constantly told people here there is no career path, which really stinks.

You can try, but if the company is encouraging managers to give out inconsistently meets, won't you most likely encounter that on a new team? You'd be the newbie. There IS work and knowledge hoarding going on due to stack ranking, so be aware of that before you head to a new role where you might need to learn the ropes. Newbies are easy scapegoats too. Might be best looking outside the bank due to the culture, or weigh how long to wait out a change in leadership/culture.

I was promoted last review session, along with 109 others in my LOB, so it’s definitely possible.

As for the OP, while it’s not a definite stopper, it will be very difficult unless you have some other qualities/skills to make you stand out.

There is no way to get promoted working here. They only want to ax people. For anyone thinking of coming here to work. DONT DO IT! Huge mistake!

Not necessarily. I was in Legal and had the absolute worst manager. My entire team of 5 left, 3 managers left and after I left 2 more managers left all because of her. But apparently she has "pics" of someone cuz she still has her job. But anyway... I applied and my resume was solid and I told my new manager (have been here 3 years now and love the team) all about my performance, my history on that team, the inter dynamics and then my professional resume (all without slamming her...as much as I could) and he gave me a chance. I got a great raise to come over here and leave that he||hole and couldn't be happier (although severance would make me happier...). So it just depends upon your proven background, your skills and your honest as well as a manager that can see through the bs. I WISH YOU THE BEST OF CHANCES!!

Working here ki-ls your chances for internal recruiting.

Ratings have nothing to do with it.

@lie+1njlv6ju - is truly maddening, the horrible plan that promotes mediocrity and a revolving door of candidates

Doesn't this somehow reflect on the manager too? I mean, if you go into a heavily stretched role and receive no guidance, no support, as all team members are conscious of stack rank, so hey, no help. With all the middle managers not knowing their subject matter as others have said on this board, it's a barrier to doing well if you are the new kid on the block. I guess managers here aren't held accountable for their "does not meet" team members, or am I missing something?

Sorry but you've been put on the persona non grata list. Get your exit plan in place to do for your convenience and not theirs.

PS, there are no consequences for quitting without notice. Employment at will and such

How stupid is it to force someone into an inconsistently meets if they are performing? So we can spend time and $ rehiring a replacements and continually have 20 percent turnover, excluding other attrition of employees rated higher???? Because that’s really efficient. Lol.
