Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Never worked from an office while at AT&T, was told my work location didn't matter - BIG LIES!

I was hired for a remote position over a decade ago; I have never worked inside an AT&T office; the closest AT&T office is over 100 miles away. I have always had positive and stellar performance reviews. None of that matters. I'm now expected to drive over 2 hours each way to be at an office for 8 hours daily. None of my team will be at that office, none of my peers will be at that office, but hey, I'll be at an office.

I will no longer recommend AT&T to any of my family or friends, and I will certainly never recommend AT&T as a workplace!

Haven't post in a while, com'on folks, do you really think these corporate decisions are made with rational thinking. We can argue amongst ourselves all day long, it doesn't change the fact that such policy only has one goal in mind, to drive people out.

You can be highly productive or lazy a-s, the goal is to drive you out of the company. My suggestion is start interviewing now, take the severance package and get out of the he-l hole before it caves in.

You should probably look up what collaboration means if you think just being in an office will help that.

Also, what collaboration will occur when many people are in offices with no common team members or even organizational members in the same office? How will that help collaboration?

It will help because those in the office are expected to be there 8 hours No more hiding behind tricks to keep your TEAMS light green and not being at in’s desk for hours at a time.

Sounds to me like 2 hours is beyond a 50 mile relocation. Aren't you eligible for layoff? Your current work location is the location that you and AT&T agreed you would be working from.

Doesn't your paycheck indicate the taxing location?

Consider yourself lucky that you have a job. On the other hand, your negative attitude will definitely get you into trouble ... therefore, I see you getting booted in the not too distant future. Cutting your nose off to spite your face. Id--tic!

You are that girl that won’t except the-

“It’s not you, it’s me”
“I’m not in the right place for this relationship “

Let’s not make a scene. You’ve put on a few pounds since this started and we are just on different paths.

We’re just, not that into you!

Terms and conditions of your employment are governed by the policies at your AT&T company and may be changed by management ...... to force you and your colleges out

“ Please tell me what business needs have changed”

The business NEEDS you to get your a$$ into the office and they have the right to make that request at their discretion.

Please tell me what business needs have changed; when two years ago, AT&T well-selling office space was like hot cake to save money; now, they are reopening offices to accommodate the influx of people. Also, what collaboration will occur when many people are in offices with no common team members or even organizational members in the same office? How will that help collaboration?

Haha It took me way too long to figure out that TLO censored a pretty benign word. The "a" was throwing me off.

Wow. Never realized how many WFH pa----s there were. No wonder some never seem to be "available" during regular business hours and Costco is always so dang busy. Your job description changed. It sucks; you don't like it; we get it. Either quit your bi--hin or get a different job which is what T wants anyway.

"This is the key takeaway from your post. Business needs change."

Sure, but you have to admit, it feels kind of backwards. As we progress, you'd think the WFH model would keep getting more popular, but instead we're not seeing this big reversal all over the place. A lot of it is related to the pandemic and all the remote work that came with it. Maybe businesses did take a hit in productivity with this. Unfortunately, too many people got a taste of WFH, and fought hard against the calls to come back to office. So now lots of companies are adopting this heavy-handed approach, which also punished long time remote workers. Just an unfortunate situation all around.

There are so many high performing employees in the same boat unfortunately. Many of which have been doing well near a hub location, but have been surplused. This company is painting with such a broad brush. It’s only going to get worse, and maybe best to move on. It’s going to be a common theme for the next few years.

Was on a surplus info call today. A couple hundred people on it too, all with questions. Two things that stood out to me:

  1. There are so many people asking about the modified rule of 75. I'm too young for this, so never cared, but it was shocking how many people don't know if they qualify or not, or what are the qualification environments.
  1. And almost just as many people were asking about looking for jobs within AT&T now, or getting re-hired asap. I assume it maybe related to that rule of 75/retirement are for many of them, but many looked/sounded too young to worry about that, so I kept thinking... Why would anyone want to look for another job with this company with everything they've been doing to their employees? I get it, change it very scary, I'm feeling it myself, but darn, AT&T is not worth it. This is the perfect opportunity to go out there and find something better. I would not recommend AT&T as a good place to work.

When AT&T bought the company I worked for they closed all the local offices to save money. Now I have no office to even go to.
