A colleague has suggested that retirement eligible people cannot get severance, it has to be either retirement or severance? That doesn’t seem logical to me, does anyone know the answer to this question?

Ask yourself what retirement benefits.
Retirement eligibility or non- eligibility has nothing to do with severance eligibility or payout.
If you take retirement benefits you do get a severance but I believe it’s reduced. The scenario is very clearly outlined in the management severance policy.

Hi folks this has been addressed in the FAQ. Has anyone who answered no, actually read the applicable documents? The are considered separate events. It just happens the sever happens at the time of retirement.
Nope!

Yes, you get both. It is in one the FAQs.
If you are involved in a surplus then you still get the severance, regardless if you are retirement eligible.
I hear you can get severance then after the period the pay covers then retire. I don't know for sure
