Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Return to the office that hasn’t even got space.

Return to the office, only to be told there is not a desk for you. Managers are being told to arrive early to get a drop in space, but some people can’t be there as early for their kids. Seems a violation of EEOC to not have desks available to everyone, and not enough to alternate days for shared spaces. Seems discriminatory to ensure only first come first serve when we all work there. Especially when you are told that’s the place you report. Shameful that employees don’t even have enough value to have a desk to use after they make you come in.

OSHA regs also require paper cups be made available for that drinking water. Any offices have them?

This arrangement is ripe with OSHA violations. Potable water, rodents, etc.

Same situation here in a non hub location that is going to stay open since the call center isn’t closing. 200 plus people and 30 desks. Our 3rd level in Dallas said show up and try to get a desk. Go home if there aren’t any.

YWR says strategic locations get desk reservations. Ours is not strategic. So maybe we get them and maybe not.

Water is also an issue but there are claims it will be fixed. They tore out a drinking fountain and haven’t replaced it. It should be replaced “soon”. So why tear it out if you don’t have the replacement?

I am begging for something official about my building. We have to rely on word of mouth because no one tells us anything. Our boss is good about sharing but they also don’t get official word on much.

It's a CO. Granted, there are legit people in the list (field techs...) that account for MAYBE 50 to 75... BTW asked Corey Anthony on his "fireside" chat about working from technical spaces (CO's, data and / or call centers) and was told "not only no but he-l no - next question"...

The office I'm assigned to has 8 spaces but webphone has 744 people on record. Really?

What office is this and what type of work do these 744 do?

"The chairs and desks are reserved for those of fair skin and straight hair. Sorry"

Poster, it appears that you are a disgruntled racist, Sorry! By the way, racists come in all colors, shapes, sizes, and hair textures. Praying the Supreme Court dismantles Affirmative Action, and businesses do away with racist DEI orgs and policies. The only way to stop discriminating on the basis of Race is to stop discriminating on the basis of Race by giving preferences based on Race

The building has gone from two wings and multiple floors to one wing with one floor and also everyone being asked to come in 3x per week.

Who is “everyone”? How would you know everyone (assigned to the building) has been officially notified about their RTO status?

No, San Ramon does NOT have enough seats. Proven by the fact that I reserved a desk and when I got there, had to kick someone else off that was using it.

This does not mean there is not enough seating. This shows the person that was squatting does not know there is a reservation system. If there is not enough seating these are the solutions that will be implemented

  • assigned workdays to manage the shortage
  • Virtual office days in conjunction with assigned work days to manage capacity issues
  • a lot or people to be relocated

Instead of whining like anonymous cowards, step up and make detailed reports to your state labor board with pictures and be willing to stand up an put a name to your complaints.

OP, you are an absolute mo--n without a doubt. Familiarize yourself with what is and what is not covered by EEO - not having an assigned seat IS NOT an EEO violation. EEO discrimination categories such as Race, Religion, National Origin, S-x, etc are all protected categories by law, therefore, company policy too. Please explain which lawful protected category not having an assigned seat falls under.... TIC, TIC, TIC....I'm waiting!

Also, please contact the company EEO hotline or the EEOC with your stupidity and wait for their laughing and snickering to start .... while you're at it, contact the media too and embarass yourself in print or on TV.

Shaking my head at the ignorance and stupidity of some folks. By the way, at HQ in Dallas and other hub locales, it is unassigned open seating on a first come, first served basis for most employees up to Director's and AVP's in many instances.

There will be layoff after layoff until there is enough seats. They will not invest in real estate. Maybe in India they will add seats.

No, San Ramon does NOT have enough seats. Proven by the fact that I reserved a desk and when I got there, had to kick someone else off that was using it. Not enough space to accommodate when everyone is being asked to come in to the office. This is 100% true and only people who actually go in to the office know. There are over 100 sellers in the NorCal fiber org alone all being asked to be in San Ramon on Tuesday. No water cooler in Milpitas. Haven’t seen one in San Ramon either since they have eliminated all but one wing and floor in the building. Whoever thinks San Ramon has enough space obviously has not been there in the last year. The building has gone from two wings and multiple floors to one wing with one floor and also everyone being asked to come in 3x per week.

I think everyone who can’t find a seat and wants to complain should put their name on a petition.

Send that petition to HR.

Sit back and wait for the next month of surplus and it will take care of itself.

Some of you people will always find something to complain about - even when you know it is not true. For example the comment about drinking water. You know damn well that you know nothing about any office except your own, but you loosely say “some places” wit no confirmation this true. If so, name the locations. The comment about not enough seats, blah, blah - use common sense here. If you cannot reserve a cube you will not be required to go into the office. If space is very tight you can expect to have assigned days in the office. Okay, now that we have resolve the space issue, you start complaining that your in office days are assigned. I can hear it now, I have to go in on Monday AND Friday but the other person in my group that sucks up to my boss op goes in Tuesday-Thurs.

Yup wish this was being reported on in the press. There also isn’t even a water cooler in many offices. How are we supposed to work in an office and not even provided drinking water?

Please tell us which facilities are lacking drinking water. There is a comprehensive list of things we are confirming each work location has. Beverages is one of themso let us know so we can follow up.

Managers are being told to arrive early to get a drop in space, but some people can’t be there as early for their kids.

This is BS, nobody told you or anyone else to do this. If I am wrong, tell us what manager told you this is the way it is going to work !! Cubes will be reserved via the online reservation system. Common sense (I know, you will say leadership does not have any, for this issue let us assume they do) says they are not going to have people show up wandering around looking for a seat, only to have large groups of people unable to find them.

It’s unbelievable. Employees in India even get to work from home but apparently at a telecommunications company we need to be in an office together to be on separate calls and meetings on our computer. The entire thing is so asinine

There will be enough seats for everybody that has a spot. If you have to share desks with somebody else your job is likely to not last for long. Hunger games have begun.
