Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Overheard a director in nj

It sounds like hr hasn’t finalized a plan and also there’s no guarantee if your willing to
Move to Dallas that you will have a role …it looks like att was trying to avoid paying severance, but there no way around it…so now it’s all in a big fu----g pot of sh-t…this is all about cost savings but doesn’t look like it’s something they can achieve right away due to having to pay severance.

The severance policy isn’t a mystery. If you’re asked to move over 50 miles away and decline, you get severance

It true. Again, someone that does not understand the difference between a union and non union employee. Regardless, as per the management severance plan on HR OneStop there is no reference to a distance.

Severance in Nj is a law, it’s new for 2023. And there is no max, one week pay for every year worked. And an extra 4 weeks if you do not receive 90 day notice. Google it, New NJ severance law

At this point it is all up in the air. Nothing is official except that you’re expected to be in Dallas in late 24 or early 25. people will just have this anxiety over their heads until something officially happens.

They can’t not commit to not having a job for you at the new location & not offer you. Totally 2 separate scenarios.

I would guess that all the chaos is due to the severance payments…never seen a bigger mess in my 20 plus years

"Un-fun fact: No law – federal or state – requires employers to offer you any severance when they lay you off, unless you have a union or individual employment contract that includes a provision for it."

Check out the NJ Warn Act, severance legislated

Step 1: Stankey asks board for more money. Step 2: Board says, Stankey has to first make company make more money. Step 3: Stankey not make money. Stankey actually lose more money. Step 4: Stankey still wants more money. Step 5: Board says, Stankey has to first stop losing money. Stankey know! Stankey lay off 10% workers!! Step 6: Stankey send email, Stankey say old people who built company can go now. Younger people in Dallas replace. Step 7: Stankey turn to HR and says “Handle it”. Step 8: HR say, “Ur Laying us off too, ya dope”. Step 9: Stankey sell company to Amazon at huge loss after declaring bankruptcy because no millennials want his “culture of Drakkar Noir”. Step 10: Stankey retire with big bonus.

The severance policy isn’t a mystery. If you’re asked to move over 50 miles away and decline, you get severance. If you lie and say yeah I’ll move but don’t, you don’t get severance if you fail to show up on your specified date.
Severance can change at any time so keep that in mind. This is the policy as of today, though.

Yeah, you aren't guaranteed a dime of severance, by law.

You can’t get out of severance related to relocation over 50

There are no Directors that were involved in the planning (using that term loosely) or the rollout of this.

The delay is and will be about “adjusting “ policy to decrease payouts.

Severance eligibility is a policy, not a law.

I will not be surprised if the severance policy is updated prior to a final RTO timeline announcement, decreasing the payout or creating stipulations.

"hr hasn’t finalized a plan"

This isn't "HRs" plan so whatever "director" you talked to is full of it.
