Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

We had call today with our VP

She talked and talked but said nothing. Person well outside of any core location was desperate asking questions. VP talked to person but said nothing. What a disgrace all due to Stanley's Hubris, Board Flaccidity, and gambling with balance sheet and cash flow. It's over people as you will not be able to rebound from the disruptions that will occur. These j-off executives are simply trying to hit a cash flow target and not prep ATT for the future. Lay down everyone and collect checks

“ You definitely don't understand that a business has to make money. Duh.”

Sure they do… but do you see that happening here? Hopefully the Board of Directors can clean off their glasses or get some fresh eyes.
Selling your car (or other personal items) at a loss to save your home from foreclosure is what gamblers do-doesn’t count as ‘making money’. Trickle-up leadership is just more of the same.
(In case that’s vague, the metaphor is T dumping employees to save corporate jobs and look like they have more money)

"She talked and talked but said nothing. "

But then again, what's new?

* "They also have to manage it and make smart decisions. Duh..." *

This is the great problem we have. We have a lot of managers, but no leaders.

" that a business has to make money"

That might have some validity if they didn't insist on paying $20M to a dolt that no other company on earth would hire.

If a manager makes a decision or gives direction, they have to own it good or bad. If they give you the goal line and you have to find your own way there, it’s on you if the path you chose isn’t acceptable and the glory goes to them if you meet the goal.

They also have to manage it and make smart decisions. Duh...

Typical of the C-Level leadership at AT&T unfortunately. Give some broad vision and no direction on how to achieve it. In my many years here, it has been lather, rinse, repeat around that exact same scenario. This is no different.
