Leadership Decision Process Revisited

https://www.thelayoff.com/post/@OP+1ncnLhFK

I had to repost this article as most recent so that it does not get lost in the flow. It provides the most information yet regarding the Stankey mind set and what AT&T employees are dealing with. This is much appreciated and thanks to the OP. It is a must read and the hope is that much more information is coming in the near term.

I have a few questions for the OP if he wants to reply but first a warning to the OP and to all posters. While almost all readers and posters are concerned employees everyone needs to be aware that Stankey views this site as a threat, and I believe he is personally aware and likely monitoring the commentary. First read the original post, then the replies. Notice the number of likes and dislikes for the original post, the OP’s replies, and then the negative replies to the OP. The number against the OP is always and only 3 (at least since 5 PM Central) but with a huge number in favor of the OP. Why? I think that these are not just random and different folks on the site with an opposing view, they are the same members of the Stankey inner circle – always three (they are not only morally corrupt but also transparently stupid). Beware and stay safe OP!

A few questions. You can answer if you like with a yes or no or in depth. I think any response would be of value to all AT&T employees.

  1. Do you have an opinion or evidence as to whether there would be at least some grounds for a class action lawsuit based on age discrimination? Is the percentage of over-age 50 employees being impacted much greater than the percentage of under-age 30 employees being impacted? Have you heard of any concern from executive level management of a class action lawsuit?
  2. This happened very quickly. Any insight into whether this was caused by the large Q1 cash flow miss and was not something developed with a long-term plan that was fully socialized and discussed with executive level management and vetted by legal or was this just a Stankey knee jerk reaction developed over a weekend after the earnings miss? Were most VP level managers in the dark on this?
  3. Any idea of how many relocation grants? Are they non-existent, do they go to a select few, or is there a true formal process in determining their availability based on true value to the company? Any evidence on how they will be offered across age and levels?
  4. Are there widespread exceptions being granted to favorites regarding required relocations? About how many VPs and above are outside Dallas/Atlanta and are they really going to be relocated?
  5. And lastly a question not related to the employment situation but something fellow employees may be interested in from somebody more in the know - Any insight regarding how VP level and above really view Stankey? Love, Fear, Hate? What about the CFO (a real dud and totally out of his depth in my opinion) and COO? Any rumors on how the BOD view this situation?

Thanks, and Be Aware and Be Safe!!!!

So far -18 votes on this and counting. This is a perfect example of Stankey or HR trying to deflect or mute the conversation. Why else would somebody care about a repost or bother to post a stupid request like this.

OP here. Misery loves company. Best advice is to remain patient and vigilant. Leadership teams across the company are sloppy. It is quite laughable. Information is being leaked on almost every call, meeting, and discussion. The degree of corporate incompetence is on full display.

OP here. That’s a lot of information to digest but I will do my best.

A - I have not heard of any concern over lawsuits or litigation. I would not be privy to any of this discussion, but my gut tells me that any attempt to file a complaint or sue would be an exercise in futility. The company is too powerful to care and it would require a coordinated effort if there were any basis behind it. You’re dealing with a CEO who is a lobbyist. Money and government protection? Don’t bet on it.

B - I touched on this in my original post. I do not know why the RTO project was rolled out so haphazardly. Most I’ve spoken with speculate that information regarding RTO was either leaked or communicated prematurely and it created a snowball effect. There was no way to put the genie back in the lamp. I do not believe there is any motivation aside from the free cash issue, justifying real estate costs, and pacifying the stockholders/board.

C - I have nothing to provide on this except pure speculation. My guess is that relocation expenses would only be covered on rare occasions for high-level executive roles. To my knowledge, age and skill set have not been used in the decision making process for RTO. Derivative surplus and/or office closure decisions may be a different sorry but I cannot confirm.

D - I cannot answer that. As always, people lobby for those in their network. Favorites, business partners, friends, etc end up playing a part in decisions. We have operated like that for decades. I do not have any numbers to provide but there are VPs outside of Atlanta and Dallas who are relocating. That is 100% confirmed.

E - Nothing to provide on this. Anything I add to the conversation would be complete speculation outside of mass confusion and distrust. Most believe we are on the path towards debt restructuring, bankruptcy, merger, or selling a part of the business. There is also growing sentiment that the financing teams may have underestimated the amount of employees who would elect to leave and the public backlash from skirting around a severance. Paying severance to thousands of employees will significantly alter the financials that can be reported, thus forcing the CEO to backpedal on the promise he’s made to the investors.

Some new information was brought to my attention this afternoon that is very interesting . I’m confirming a few things and will post when I feel comfortable sharing it.
