Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

OVERWORKED AND UNDERVALUED

Salaried employees expected to work round the clock.
Told to bring my laptop with me while on PTO
Forced Rankings
RTO for all - little to no exceptions
Raises are not even cost of living
Benefits cost emoyees more and more each year
No career advancement
Morale at it's lowest...but watch it go lower!

Did I miss anything?

Yeah, you forgot that you're an entitled, over-paid computer janitor with a superiority complex.

Why the he-l would anyone work around the clock and bring their laptop on PTO?
Outright refusal would be my answer. I have also refused to train people in India since they have their own senior managers. Figure it out yourself.

Great list, OP!

  • Adding to list:
  • Unending threat of layoffs
  • Outdated ineffective technology, putting employees at increased risk for errors which will be blamed on us.
  • C-Suite living the high life off the backs of employees
  • Frustration of watching C-Suite spend dollars to save dimes
  • Increasingly difficult to get approval for PTO since departments are short-handed
  • C-Suite bringing in managers who don’t know the department’s business, don’t know the technology; therefore are unable to help in a crisis, unable to problem-solve, can’t answer questions, can’t pick up the slack when short-handed etc. Essentially the people who can’t do the work are making the most money. Ridiculous.
  • Lack of transparency and shenanigans on leadership’s part creating distrust throughout the bank

don't like it then leave. if your manager/leadership is setting unreal expectations then push back, put in your 8 hours, take your time off and call it a day. if you are an exempt employee and they need you to log in and do something on PTO, even if just for five minutes then change your PTO to half day instead of full. if you work a minute over 4 hours in a given say then don't take a half day. as exempt, if you work over 8 hours on some days don't feel bad about cutting out early after 6 hours on other days. don't let them have it both ways.

When you go on vacation or even a short trip, tell them you're going to Mexico or Canada. WF has a policy that you cannot log onto the network out of the country. Been doing that for 10 years now. If I'm going to Florida, I tell them Mexico....If I'm going to Montana, I tell them I'm going into Canada.

For the individual with a poor knowledge of what H1-B means. WF like every company applies for a fixed amount of H1-B visas each year. It isn't a continuous flow. H1-B workers are non American workers working in America. Training a worker in India has nothing to do with an H1-B visa.

Understand the managers are also scared and p..sd off. Think about it. They are responsible for getting the job done. They are given a set amount of resources. Then the resources are taken away or shifted. They have to lay off the workers they know will get the job done for those they don't know.
They still have to get the job done given these changed circumstances. Some live in rural areas and are faced with RTO. It appears that the survivor game has appeared on the Well's stage -- for all.

@1bbx+1ne2srIt Speaking of beach houses, I had a friend who worked for a manager with one of those. When the assignment was over he blackballed the person for no legitimate reason as his manager didn't like my friend & told the manager to not give a good referral internally. It was only when his name was taken off the referral list that my friend got back into the bank on another assignment. So much BS for nothing- jealous managers' whims.

You are not supposed to take your laptop on PTO. It is a security risk and a taxation risk if you work in another state

You forgot, how high our deductibles on insurance are. Unless you have major health issue that year, insurance is really not paying anything. Coming out of your pocket. Sick of working my behind off, to be told that it is "just part of your job duties". No, taking over 3 peoples jobs because they were laid off or quit, is not "just part of my job duties". Then they will come back with meets on reviews every time. You just can't win. High ups though need to get their bonus with no long term plan!!! Unless of course, you count their plans of beach house and constant vacations in retirement. That's the only WFC long term plan.

This is not unique to WF. It’s at Fortune 500 companies everywhere.WF is catching up with large peers

Agree with the list.

Up until 2-3 years ago, I willingly brought my laptop while on PTO. Not anymore!

And truly, at most any level, someone else CAN and WILL handle whatever may happen while on PTO. WF shows me routinely that I am not a valued employee when I am on the clock for them so clearly I would not be needed when on my PTO!

You captured it all. 30 year employee here and this is the worst I have ever seen it. I would not bring laptop on PTO and would save the communication that told you to do that or send one confirming the instructions as a CYA

My manager asks me to train H1-B workers every week.
Sharing is not collaboration.
In India and China, their education is affordable, while ours are not.
They can pay for school with our health insurance premiums.
Why am I responsible for their training?
