Was two weeks into a medical leave for depression and anxiety when my manager called me and said my role was being eliminated. I will return on October 1, which my manager said would be a 60 day period where I could find another role within Wells Fargo, which, at this point, I really don’t want to do. Anyone been in a similar circumstance, and can share with me how this works? They will not release my severance information until I complete my medical leave.

You were likely already flagged as going. Timing might su-k, but you were long into the pipeline beforehand.
lol medical leave for anxiety and depression while the team keeps trudging through.. hope you feel better now
There are no jobs nor will they try and place you. Get out while you can!!!
To the simple hearted folk who fake their medical leave to avoid the sh;tstorm - don’t bother you can’t escape.
1swm, surprisingly painless for me! You and your doctor just have to comply with the paperwork requests in the timeframes given. If a doctor agrees with you, there’s really nothing short term disability or leave management can argue.
@1tde+1nZHsGL0 re: FMLA. We can, indeed, be let go while on out on FMLA. We can't be let go FOR being on FMLA. It's the same deal as being let go for any obfuscated reason like age or dislike. If OP wasn't the sole person in the org (his specific team doesn't matter) under 2-3-4 levels up to be let go, then it can be dismissed as acceptable. Especially if their reviews were positive. If there were a string of negative reviews then bias could be proven by a lawyer.
OP....how difficult was the process for getting approved for a LOA for depression/anxiety. I have strongly considered doing this and just wanted to see if you had to jump through a lot of hoops or if there is anything I should know before going down this route
Thanks
Clarification-- if OP was on FMLA then they're supposed to be guaranteed a position when they return. Now, they could get laid off the day they get back too for that matter.
I don't know if short term LOA qualifies as FMLA.
Take the severance
There is a poster in one of the threads weeks back that talks about this happening often.
Starting to believe them.
You will continue to get your medical leave pay for as long as you are on medical leave, regardless of the “layoff date”.
Once you are no longer on medical leave there is an aprx 45-60 day unpaid timeframe where they try and “find you a job”. This job can be 60% of your current pay. If they find you an internal job and you do not accept, you do not get severance.
If no job is located (or available if there are no open listings in your area), then your severance will start after the 45-60day timeframe.
If during your medical leave, or the 45-60day no pay timeframe, you find (or start) another job, you do not get your severance.
Once you are actively rcving your severance, if you find (or start) a new job, then you will get your remaining severance in a lump. Advising them of a job after rcving severance is sending them a completed piece of paper.
Another sign that Wells Fargo’s true commitment to DEI is a joke and is there just to signal regulators and su-k up to ESG.
Your notice period will be the length of your LOA or the 60 days, whichever is longer. More importantly, but wait their is more. After your LOA notice period, they then need to put in for your OWBPA (Older Workers Benefit Plan Act). Your age doesn't matter on this because of the level off displaced. Normally this is concurrent with your 60 days, unless you are on an approved LOA. It is a 45 day notice period that can not overlap the approved LOA. Make sure you keep up with your the disability insurance, your Dr., and your applicable state agencies.
Good luck to you. I hope you heal and stick up for yourself.
How long ago did this happen OP?
It's not illegal they can terminate an employee at anytime. I worked at a Fortune 50 company once and someone was in the hospital for surgery and was fired.
Some people, but not all, think medical leave makes you Teflon. Not true. If they target only you, then it’s sketchy.
If others are included in the rif, then you’re fair game.
Not illegal. Medical Leave is not a protected class. I had a teammate laid off a little more than a year ago while on Paternity leave literally the day his wife had their child. Terrible timing.
Isn’t it illegal to lay someone off when they’re on medical leave? I guess they’re getting around that by not laying OP off until they come back. OP milk that short term medical leave as long as you can. F em
Your lucky you get such a package. People in tech are told to leave and given nothing.
Getting TF out of Wells will remedy your depression and anxiety. Just leave. The doctor above just gave you your cure...run!!
