Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Lone remote soul on a team of office dwellers

I am suprised not a single person on my team has asked me why I am allowed to be remote while they are being actively tallied for weekly office visits.

If asked, answers would be all maybes:

  1. I'm special
  1. I'm a cockroach (HR probably wouldn't know the difference anyways)
  1. Current state of residence has a nice cushy protective shell made of employment laws
  1. My overall compensation/value is not hitting the books hard enough
  1. Manager has secretly signed a no-trade clause on my behalf
  1. WF has a history of being unable to effectively commit, communicate and deliver on anything. Location strategy is apparently a strategy involving nonstrategic methods (similar to WF's interpretation of Agile)

Thank you for your time.

My team has 3 of these. One each in WA, SC and PA. I truly hope for cuts and we would not feel the loss of any of them except the PA person.

What we do feel on a daily/weekly basis is the poor output of the two however there is reasoning behind keeping a couple of terds around for east cuts. Just irritating to hound them for the fraction of work they are assigned when others need the results.

They may have a medical exemption that your Manager (or anyone) should not discuss due to privacy rules. My dept has the “it’s not your business/doesn’t affect you/worry about yourself” response to situations like this.

Hello OP

We appreciate your candid perspective and certainly understand the complexities of remote work versus office-based work. It is important to remember, however, that we are all part of a team, and each one of us is here because we bring value to our roles and the organization as a whole. The exact arrangement of how and where you work depends on many factors, including personal circumstances (fake medical issues), job roles, company policies, and in some cases, legal constraints.

It's so wonderful that you have found a working setup that suits your needs. Let's keep the dialogue open and continue supporting one another. If any team members have questions about work arrangements, encourage open conversations with HR or management, who can provide clarity on the policies and criteria involved regarding your circumstances.

In regards to your comment on our location strategy and implementation of Agile, constructive criticism is welcome, and your observations are duly noted. There is always room for improvement, and feedback like yours helps shape a better way forward.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It's through conversations like this we can ensure we're moving in the right direction.

Best,

Mine won't speak to me out of misguided jealousy.
