The precedent has already been set.
Finding that AT&T factored in an employee’s age in its decision to lay her off, a federal judge has awarded the former employee more than $2.25 million in damages in her age discrimination lawsuit against the phone company.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Timothy Rice of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania’s award comes after a federal jury found in favor of plaintiff Alison Ray, who was terminated from AT&T at age 49 as part of a reduction in force. Rice’s award constitutes approximately $496,000 in back pay, $496,000 in liquidated damages, and $1.260 million in front pay.
