Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

If near/over the rule of 75, you are most likely gone (unless you move across country)

Three of my team members (all over rule 75, all TW long before covid) were assigned to offices states away from them, despite closer ones being available. They were given the choice of reporting to that office or surplus. All three of them got letters on Friday, one never answered, and the other two I don't know.

RTO is a mass layoff targeting those close to retirement to get them off the payroll.

I hope and pray someone files a discrimination lawsuit.

Its job based not person based. I am local market management employee and a few years over mod rule of 75. Not laid off and not in a hub. There's plenty of people not fitting into your theory.

100% just happened to my husband who had gotten NOTHING but accolades for his work at AT&T for the 24.7 years he has worked there.

He has less than 4 months to reach 25. If that gets him to MR75 and a big pension jump then it'd be worth the temporary rental payments.

MR 75 means nothing now for managers.

Plenty of managers in the West who care if they reach MR75.

Are they giving employees any days off to move or do you have to use up vacation days? What about the multiple trips required to find housing? Any help with expenses?

@1lvw, I'm really sorry this is happening to your family, wish you the best. Don't pay attention to the comments, I'm sure no one here means no harm. We are all very nervous about this whole situation T has put us in, that's all.

He is expected to move half way around the country on our dimes for a company that we can't trust? NO WAY. I am DISGUSTED with this selfish company. NO loyalty. It's pathetic. We're NOT rich. We're NOT elitists, just normal people working to live and have a good time every now and then. Some of these comments here are awful.

Just look at it as an all expenses paid move. Rent an apartment or house and play the game for a while. Then retire or get surplused. Leave your stuff and family where you live now. Play it out for year and then move back.

MR75 give retirees access to HC. You might not like the cost of the HC, but you have access to buy in.

“MR 75 means nothing now for managers.”
"Wrong. This is not true for a lot of management employees. Stop perpetuating this myth."

This is absolutely true for me, and many others in the legacy BellSouth team. There is no increase in my pension. There is no more retirement healthcare subsidies. "Retiring" means very little these days. The only thing MR75 does for me now is that I get a 30% discount on wireless service, and $15k life insurance death benefit...which is just enough to dig a hole and bury me in a cheap pine box.

RTO is targeting those old workers claiming to work from home and doing their own personal business. Enough is enough. Need to start working. Being old doesn't mean you are working.

As far as I know AT&T is telling everyone to report to an office somewhere, not just older employees, so I'm not sure this can work.

2/3rds of the folks at AT&T are at the rule of 75 or more. You can’t call age discrimination, when everyone is an old fa-t!

FYI. Severance agreements do NOT cover lawsuits based on discrimination. By law, civil rights suits cannot be banned by any such agreements.

Every single lawyer in the Legal Department laid off was either over the rule of 75 or, in 2 additional cases, close to it and allowed to stay a few extra months to reach it.

The law department firings are surgically aimed by Stankey and his henchman McAtww at older employees.

Discrimination for focusing on firing older employees, who are protected, while hiring younger employees. Most importantly, using Stankey's announcement that is their action plan. You can't target a protected class. However, most in management will take the severance package rather than file a long drawn out legal suit. You will get severance if you are required to move to a new site that is beyond the xx miles increased commute set in the policy

Discrimination suit for what? AT&T’s loyalty is to shareholders, not employees - of any age. Times change and the company has to change to keep up. It’s ridiculous to think the company can operate the same as it did even 5 years ago. I started in mobility in 1997 and we were told 85% of the market did not have a cell phone. Fast forward to 2023 and we are told any new large business sale comes from taking the business away from a competitor.

But then again my market just lost a 25 and 35 year employee, and that’s without relocating even being involved

Just stop, knucklehead. Market based people aren’t even being asked to move, and they make up a lot of the employee base, at least for mobility.
