Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

No Way Even Half of the RTO Crowd is Close to Complying

This company is such a joke. I have no doubt they know who is going in 3 days/week for a full day each time, but so what? What are they gonna do about it?

If they start formal threats and discipline action against even one person, they have to go after everyone. If they don't, the trial lawyers will pounce. This company, by its very public statements (and actions), has put itself on the radar of every large law firm in this country.

That being said, I'm sure they have a few hundred million set aside for litigation settlements. It's small-ball compared to the $150B Stephenson and Stankey have looted and squandered.

It's called at-will employment (unless part of a bargaining unit). This means they can fire you for any reason or no reason at all, and they can make up their own rules on the fly if they want. If you think any lawyer would take on a case like this, you are dreaming. If you don't like the rules, leave the game folks. There are plenty of other employers out there, many better than where you currently are.

Then you're not going to have to worry about going in at all before the end of this year.

We'll see about that. I'm not worried. :)

There are reports going out. Some managers may look the other way for a while, but eventually they will get pinged from above that their numbers are bad ( just like the surveys) and then they will start having discussions with their people.

I've ignored the survey for the past 3 years, even after being nagged. So far, nothing bad has happened.

There's really nothing for me to say. If they force me to do it, I will fill it with zeroes.

I know the HR team who built the report. Technically it was one person, and there’s no more extra detail than what leadership and supervisors see so not sure where you’re getting that secret/more details button from. CSO pushed back on VPN data for legal reasoning, that would have shown more than just badge swipes. As a backup if badge swipes fail, LAN/Wi-Fi data would be used to indicate office presence. This report was built in Power BI so yes you can create logic to know if someone swiped their badge or used ATT CORP wifi or LAN. That analysis can be aggregated up to a team level where leadership can throw the hammer down on those that fall under 100% three days a week. So if you want to stick around or are waiting for a better opportunity outside of ATT, swipe your badge three times a week. Whether you want to stay for 10 minutes or eight hours is your choice and i for sure respect the decision you make.

It's wild to me that people are so angry about being required to engage in specific behaviors.

You signed the contract, you collect a check, you agreed ro adhere to policies and standards. You agree to do a specific job and meet certain standards in exchange for a paycheck.

If you don't like those standards or the contract, then don't collect the check.

No one is forcing anyone to stay working here. If you don't like the expectations, then leave.

I've never seen so many adults act like entitled children.

"You DO have a choice. I suspect you lack job skills to go anywhere else, or you would have already moved on to greener pastures"

Sometimes the truth is just too funny.

Go to the office, do my work, go home. Been doing the same for more than 30 years. Never seen so many adults with diaper rash. Leave the company if you don't want to return to the office. You DO have a choice. I suspect you lack job skills to go anywhere else, or you would have already moved on to greener pastures.

There are PowerBI reports for supervisors that show number of days per week that employees badge into the office. I’m a director and see the report. You can rest assured that HR has even more detail than what they are publishing on a dashboard for supervisors. There is even a section for only HR to click on to see more detail.

Test the rules at your own risk.

lots of paid social media influencers (aka paid liars) on this site. Company pays other companies to spin and manipulate the on-line opinion blogs in an attempt to get an upper-hand on bad policy.

Once a company starts lying to its employees about what it's doing and why, they have to keep lying and lying bigger and bigger. The action-reaction thing kicks in as employees form their own action plans.

I look forward to reading about how 1/3 to 1/2 the RTO workers will be terminated in the 4thQ.....LOL. Impossible to do and targeting certain demographics and groups while ignoring the same infractions in other groups will get you a big giant lawsuit and more bad press. By then, Stankey will be long gone......

Either you go after everyone out of compliance or you are openly discriminating. Easy for lawyers to pull the data and internal communications as to why some are being targeted for discipline and others are being ignored.

They can't go after everyone because too many people are out of compliance and will be for a very long time. Whatcha gonna do about? Talk on this silly blog is cheap. I wanna see some company action. Start enforcing this for real or stfu.

Also, all the RTO bootlickers are pretty pathetic. Are you posting praise for stankey on quantum too for everyone to see?

We have badge swipes on the way in but not out, so you can’t use badge counts to determine if people are doing a drive-by.

Probably won’t see this start until after Labor Day. People will be terminated over this, but that won’t be until they are given a chance to course correct themselves. My guess would be we will see firings begin in October.

So if you called on the carpet by your manager, time to either show up or find another job.

I left ATT in 2020, I can tell you that they were giving reports on time in office as early as 2017 and it was a discussion topic for all department heads. The "flaw" in their reporting at the time, not sure if this was corrected, was if you came in and worked in office then went home and worked VPN after your shift they counted you as OOO because of the VPN ping.

Too stupid to do any logical analysis...so most people had like 15% in office days because most managers VPN at some point during each day. Just FYI - its a circus.

My supervisor has been transparent about this, as far as I know - states there are reports that give the number of days people are coming in, based on badge swipes. (I don’t think she’s looking at them too closely, she’s not a big fan of RTO herself.)

It would be nice if the world works the way op thinks it will. Life isn't fair and many will get screwed on this RTO debacle. Attorneys will only handle cases that are more profitable than the others in their queue and much of this is hard to prove.
