Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Fiber and the future?

“I work in the field, nearly everyday for over 10 years I’m being asked by customers, begging over and over saying, when is AT&T fiber coming to my neighborhood or business? There is pent up demand, so right now there is huge growth opportunities in broadband, only 30+% of AT&T’s area has fiber coverage, think about that. That’s with competitors already in their neighborhoods like spectrum, comcast and any other flavor.

We already know that soon as fiber is brought on-line in a neighborhood or business area, there is a minimum of 30-40% who become customers instantly. It opens the door to guess what? Mobility if they aren’t already our customers and any other add-on products, like business fiber, VoIP, ASE circuits, etc…

The buildout cost will go down and the capital outlay will be paid for in a matter of years. It takes time to build a new transport infrastructure due to limited capex, local authorities, environmental issues, terrain, etc.. There is all kind of new tech on the horizon to drive demand for higher speeds and there are products in the near future that will need more speed and capacity. Higher prices and revenue will follow because fiber has infinite speeds, only the equipment limits it and it is upgraded constantly like any other tech. It will take a while but there is hope! “

In Chicago they built the fiber at first in only 15% of neighborhoods. Meet the requirements. The product and labor are within standards but just getting the product on the table is ridiculous! This kind of work should keep fiber techs busy for years just placing and splicing it up. Fiber backbone work is wayyyyyy behind too.

Fiber! We don't need no stinking fiber. TV over twisted pair is just fine. Beside we squandered all our cash on stupid acquisitions.

In my neighborhood in Atlanta AT&T fiber finally became available last year. We only had Comcast before that, which is a good product and stable. I guess about 50% (on the high side) of homes have converted. I know because i walk the neighborhood of approximately 300 homes in a nice leafy north Atlanta neighborhood. I see the green box cover outside homes that have fiber. Frankly, the AT&T price beats Comcast easy. Not to mention, now that I have it, there is ZERO chance I ever go back to cable. the product is fantastic and superior to cable. It is a matter of getting it out there. Installation is not easy.

CEO is trying to stabilize the debt reduction plan. Like him or not it’s working. Capital expenditure is at a standstill. Look for a merger/ partnership with big tech company. Alphabet seems best suited. They will provide a nice cash infusion and the build will resume. Look for T to far exceed competitors at that point. Needed a reduction in head count as first phase.

stank has said time and time again he doesn't want to sell big d-mb pipes.

not the future of telecommunications

I wouldn't trust stank to run my children's lemonade stand.

T's fiber footprint is a joke. Virtually no coverage at all in Los Angeles -- you know, the second biggest market and largest overall metropolitan population.

But hey, Stink promises to expand. Maybe by 2075 T will be there.

In my new neighborhood AT&T was the only one here. A year later Comcast came in and 90 percent went to Comcast. It was because U-verse TV is so unreliable. I am one of the few that still has it.

If the fiber is available management doesn’t know how to schedule installation. Thats why the 15,000 manager surplus..

Don’t worry.

The employees of Gigapower will get this built out.

You just take the rest of your career off.

Gigapower contractors are only used, so far anyway, for out of region turfs, like in AZ.

Believe me they already know this. If they’re not building it’s because they don’t have the cash and don’t want to borrow the money.

City and State? You should pass that on to someone in mobility that matters, also talk to your local authorities and see if they are interested in AT&T fiber or mobility, if you are in AT&T territory.

There is no money for infrastructure enhancements, we can’t even afford spectrum…..

Can’t wait to collaborate in the fish bowl with my other non-team members trying to talk over each other. We don’t get the latest fiber technology in the Tank, only WiFi or slow ethernet are our choices. I can see why homeowners are clamoring for fiber, it’s so they can WFH and get away from noisy crowded offices.

I'm in a top 50 service market and don't even have T cell service where I live, yet their coverage charts and customer service say otherwise. Three times I've activated and 3 times I had no service in my area and cancelled within the first month. I tried the internal escalation process a few years ago and never heard anything. Over 4000 new homes have been built over the last 5 years and they still have nothing here. I don't imagine their fiber rollout would be any better or faster.

Right now middle to lower management are only concerned with RTO out of area and layoffs. How Stanky is living in their minds and disrupting their lives worse than all those benefit reductions. Hard to stay focused on business!
