Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Hub vs non hub

I'm remote in a given state. My headquarters is in another state. Will I be layed off and they'll replace me with someone who can work out of my main office? Or possibly be made to work out of an office in my city even though none of my colleagues are there. I'm not clear if I'm in a hub or what this means exactly. My management team has never indicated I can't work remote but people here are saying non hub people are getting cut for sure.

The point is to pi-s you off so you quit. There's nothing more to it than that. It not making any sense is a key element of the tool. If it made sense it wouldn't pi-s people off as much, and they wouldn't voluntarily quit.

Here is what the genius running Technology doesn’t get. People will chose the 3 days, but it doesn’t mean all the people needed to “collaborate “ will be in the office the same 3 days, at best 1 day. So what’s the point?

@euh+1nMlBZm0 " I'm not the OP, but have a related question.

When people say 'non hub location', is that an entire geographic area, or can it be a building within a metro area where there is a campus? "

A hub is literally an exact location. It could be a campus with multiple buildings or a singular building. Geographic locations will be referenced colloquially but a region is not a hub. It just so happens that some regions are conducive to multiple lines of business having a hub there. I can only speak to my Tower but there are some Geographic areas with two hubs for the same line of business.

Your hypothetical Charlotte scenario exists in real life today. I know of employees who are assigned to one hub but going to another because parking in downtown Charlotte costs a few hundred a month but they aren't assigned to work at the free parking location.

Inevitable result of working for hypocrites and liars. I wouldn't trust Hudson Yards to make change for a $20. No one that knows them would.

Here's a super idea. Since you techies are literally on the phone ALL THE TIME, without proper breaks, lunches, etc., and they want to work you people till you drop, isn't therea way you can sue them for these occupational issues since they go against the law?

Post ID: @mes+1nMlBZm0 this is the exact reason I live in Plaza midwood area. I always hear you know you could get a bigger house in the outskirts; my response is yes, but the commute into work is not worth the extra bedroom or space.

Huntersville (NC) to CIC, 20 minutes.

The commutes in Charlotte are trash no matter where you live and where you’re going. I don’t think I’ve worked with anyone at Wells Fargo who had a ‘good’ commute and lived in a single family home. Commutes will continue to get worse with the lack of infrastructure to support the region’s insane growth.

"They’ll just keep consolidating buildings until everyone in the region is jammed into CIC and Duke."

Some of my hub team members in CLT (I'm remote) now have or will have some gosh awful commutes.

@euh+1nMlBZm0 I feel like it’s pretty obvious the Charlotte hub includes the surrounding sites in the general vicinity. Last I heard Fort Mill’s office is closing, but you’d still be in the Charlotte hub if you reported to Fort Mill, CIC, IP, Ballantyne, etc. They’ll just keep consolidating buildings until everyone in the region is jammed into CIC and Duke.

I'm not the OP, but have a related question.

When people say 'non hub location', is that an entire geographic area, or can it be a building within a metro area where there is a campus?

Hypothetical example. Let's say there's the Charlotte campus, which is (of course) a hub location. But let's say there's a smaller WF office 10 miles away from the Charlotte campus. Will employees at the smaller office get laid off because they're not officially assigned to the Charlotte campus? Or is 'non hub' more like some remote satellite location in Indiana?

(I get that everyone is subject to layoff, but am wondering specifically about layoffs related to location.)

I was displaced yesterday for not living near a hub location after working almost 20 years with the company. Yes, you should be very concerned!
BTW I work in HR.

People keep referring to “your leadership” but those folks are getting whacked with the chainsaw, too.

Leadership still here will be doing C-Suite bidding to ensure majority of employees are RTO in hub locations. I don’t like it but the exec strategy clearly wants people working in a hub location WF office.

The only problem is that all the US hubs other than Hudson Yards are temporary. They are all going to go. At some point the combination of outsourcing, contracting, automation and more efficient (e.g. no buildings) competitors will end the hubs.

It does depend on your particular agreement with leadership; however, overall the company is moving to a "hub-based" strategy. Over time, all non-hub locations will be shut down. Corporate Properties is hard at work not renewing leases, consolidating buildings and selling others. If you are in a non-hub location (check with your leader on what hubs are identified for your group), your job will be moved to a hub over time.

OP, it very much depends on what you do for the company and your group's leadership. There are people and groups that have exceptions. For the rest of us plebes, they are shoving everyone into offices that they possibly can as a mechanism to drive attrition. It's irrelevant if you have people in your group there or not. I don't and haven't 'collaborated around the water cooler' once in the last 18 months I've been coming in (I was remote prior to the scamdemic). It's a complete waste of time and peeves me off--which is exactly what they are trying to do. They know if there harass 1000 people with nonsense, 100 will quit, and that's 100 severances they don't have to pay. The abuse will continue at least until we hit the magical efficiency ratio. Here's the catch though, the executives are unwilling to do what is necessary to hit competitive ratios, so we are likely going to be stuck in chainsaw mode until the current execs leave the company.

Having no colleagues at your location doesn't matter to leadership. They pretend RTO is about collaboration, but it isn't. They'll make you go in anyway - many of us go into the office and don't know or talk to a single person (other than on the phone. ) But that's assuming that there is a "LOB" approved location there. It can't be just some random retail branch. Your manager should know what's going on.

If you aren't coming into the office then at the very least you are on a list of candidates for layoff.
