Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

When we RTO, most won't have anyone there to collaborate with

Shows how stupid Stankey is if he believes that people will collaborate more. There is this wonderful new invention called a telephone you can use fro anywhere to collaborate. Stankey knows nothing about it.

With the tripledemic planned for this winter you’re better off not talking to anyone anyways. It’s a blessing.

They don’t want to RTO because of the hatred and jealousy present towards fellow employees. They could care less about the customers. That’s evident.

"The goal of RTO is to collaborate with employees in and out of your department."

Collaboration outside of your department? How does that work. That's just plain silly. That's not the way top down, authoritarian management structures like AT&T work. To the AT&T manager that kind of "collaboration" sounds like subversion of the goals and processes of his organization.

You are the problem.

“I have collaborated on a business basis 0 times in 2 weeks.”

What can you do to make a positive change in this area?”
OP of the original comment here, let’s see, I can walk around chatting with everyone and find out what they do, I already introduce myself to the random folks that I sit next to daily or meet in the break rooms (the ones that look like they may want to talk to anyone), ask what group they are with, what they do, etc. Im actually very good at networking. My job is so left field for them, they had no clue what my team does existed. Anyone I need to speak with or could even think to collaborate with to further the goals of my role or team are not where I am, nor are they centrally located and couldn’t be. I was full time teleworker before covid. Me being in the office just means I’m taking up a spot someone else could use.

"times you can get together, go out have a drink together, take part in company picnic or charity events"

Wtf. Don't have to be in a office for that.

And, if I do those things it will not be with co-workers.

Someone please tell me what this "collaboration" looks like and what is it's output. Is collaboration what we are doing when we have 10 people on a conf call watching 1 person make typos on an excel?

I’ve been RTO since July 10, so 2 weeks now, min 3x per week. Here’s what I can tell you from my perspective: nice to see some folks I haven’t seen in years, I have collaborated on a business basis 0 times in 2 weeks. Everyone I work with is scattered across the country, so no reason for me to be in the office. None of them will ever be at my location due to nature of the work nor I at theirs. It’s been an adjustment for sure. I get far more done the days I’m WFH than in the office. I really don’t see this continuing long term, it’s just not going to work. Nobody wants to be in the office. Morale is in the toilet.

"there are also times you can get together, go out have a drink together, take part in company picnic or charity events"

All I hear is that you don't want to work. why is drinking and partying so important to you? why do you need a constant social hour? what you don't realize, is that company doesn't need folks like you. You are the big lazy fish that Stankey is trying to catch and remove from the pond. In a world of diversity and equality, referring to people as whiny little girls is pretty counter productive. Drink on your own time. Support charity on your own time. Go to picnics on your own time, clown.

"It was nice to conduct personal business on company time while it lasted. "

Actually it will feel much nicer with my personal time devoted to personal things and ignoring those after hours calls. They can track down their new overseas idots when sh-t hits the fan after hours.

This don't have sh-t to do with collaboration. Blackrock and Vanguard own most corporations in the world and control what they do. Guess what all this is about. Using their leverage to float corporate real estate. If you want it to stop and you want to put an end to this control it has to be a conjoined effort to rail against the bullsh-t.

What people don't understand is RTO in July is just a beginning. Over time your team will be with you or not with the company any longer. It is a cultural shift that is best for any company to have staff in offices.

Sure you will not always collaborate in person when back in office. There will still be plenty of occasions for Microsoft Teams meetings. But, there are also times you can get together, go out have a drink together, take part in company picnic or charity events. Things that staff can not do when working from home. I understand for people over 50 this may all seem cliche, but it is part of building a culture. Over next ten years the benefits as we all either move to Atlanta or Dallas, or leave the company, will make for much stronger company. Quit bitc*ing like a little girl.

Company should not give raises, bonuses, promotions or any other change in salary or rank to those who are virtual. You chose this life and you who are virtual will be static.

Maybe instead of making the employees move, we all could have gotten rotating team building on the fleet of private jets the executives use. Nothing spells cheap donkey, like a rich executive saving a buck on the working class. Now they hope that AI and India saving on labor will keep those private jets flying. What value do YOU bring to the company c-suite? Any clown can be half right on their decisions. The business through the workforce, increases or maintains the value. Execs aren't enhancing, they aren’t even sustainment, they contract out the mopping. Pffft

A big problem with T is that a mandatory program had to be implemented for employees to start to collaborate!

150% TRUE!!

THIS IS A CLUSTER AT ITS FINEST!!

Can you even imagine a Project Manager caring for their own AT&T project in this manner?

In any other AT&T employee handled their projects in this same manner, they would be fired for such mismanagement of this CLUSTER!

Sounds great in theory, but when you are vying for a seat, any seat, there's not much chance of sitting next to someone where this would be a benefit. It certainly isn't going to happen on a daily basis. They should do assigned desks, but we know that won't happen in the US centers due to cost.

Face it, this is just another botched plan with poor execution. Just like every other plan T has attempted to execute under this pathetic "leadership."

We were told that if there is no one in your organization to collaborate with (which is the case for MANY/MOST) to collaborate with whomever is there, (basically) in hopes that if you get surplussed you have made connections/collaborated with other groups that might have a job in their organization for you. TRUTH!!!!

But do it QUICKLY because as managers we only have TWO WEEKS once we are given the surplus notice to try and find another job within the company. McElfresh said “there is no place for you”.

The goal of RTO is to collaborate with employees in and out of your department. Workgroups are too stovepiped and often work in a vacuum. You now have a whole new group of local coworkers to engage with. Take advantage of this opportunity.
