Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Mass Markets

I got my letter to move to Dallas. My job was virtual since 2015. This is actually illegal to target people because of their age. They know how long it has been since they hired in certain locations and how long I have been here. This is a target and I say F it all

I was targeted when I turned 50. told them to f off and found a better paying job making more money and got the lump sum and making more money with that now that it is out of att creative financing hands.

att thinks along with stank and rand think they are all legends in their own mind and think att is a great company. well to fix a problem you have to admit there is problem and that is just not going to happen at att with all the critical skill people lol.

att is in centurylink territory now and no better which is sad because they have a mobility division. which by the way the mobility network is an over engineered piece of junk.

This is not about age, this is all about a company being driven into the ground by Stinkey and his predecessor. The whole company is either getting laid off or forced to leave via the smokescreen of RTO (they would po-p bricks if everyone ordered to a different location/state/back to workplace actually said they would move or RTO, since that is the last thing they actually want you to do). All I'm hearing is of layoffs of vital roles and people who will not be moving who possess vital knowledge. If they care so little and are doing it to half or more of the company, that tells you that it is not going to be a company any longer, at least not lasting more than a couple of years. It will all be broken up and sold by 2026. Stinkey will get his platinum parachute while some of the employees impacted will literally die from the stress, loss of health insurance during critical health treatment or su----e due to the poor management. That is deserving of a special place in He-l.

Rule of 75 is a legacy term that no longer has meaning for most. You have known the risk of employment at T for the last 19 years. Staying on was a choice you made.

I got my letter to be off payroll by September. 24 years with the company and they throw me in the trash right before my “ rule of 75” happens

“I'm not in an hub, under 30, hired remotely, and received the same letter.”

Moving would be just another adventure for someone in your age group. Someone 20yrs older more likely to have kids in high school, aging parents they care for, a half paid-off mortgage, and deep ties to the community. That’s what they mean by affecting the older workers more harshly bc just up and leaving town ain’t that simple.

Sounds like Mr easy Peezy is jealous because some of us went to college and got manager positions.

As you scramble and hope you have a job within 50 miles of your home. Didn't work out like you thought it would. AT&T does not care.

Most of the managers with 30 plus years I know in CNIO don't have college degrees. They hired in young as craft and bid for a management position at some point back when it was considered a promotion. They have decades of telecomm experience, have an extensive network people to reach out to solve problems outside of their silo (the collaboration thing). Most of them are a great resource when there is a problem, and make no mistake there are going to be problems with a network the size of ours. This isn't Taco Bell.
Now if you want to come to AT&T with a 4 year degree, great and welcome. High School taught you how to learn, college taught you more, and additionally taught that you don't know everything. There is nothing wrong with that.

AT&T values none of this. You are all just stealing from the rightful owners of your time and labor. The C-Suite and the shareholders.

" This is actually illegal to target people because of their age"

Simple answer is T has an army of attorneys that allow them to do this and YOU don't -- you can't fight it. Welcome to America, freedoms and liberties are purchased and the price of fairness is out of reach for most of us.

Several coworkers have received letters indicating that they would have the option of remaining local if they were willing to transfer into the Jack Inmeeoff organization. They all felt like that’s what most of their managers do all day anyway.

Be thankful you have a job in Dallas. Some people are being let go. Ge-z, some people always see the pitiful half empty glass.

Your children can get student loans for college and scholarships. They can pay back the money when they get a job. They can also work while going to college like most of us had to.

OP-

You are that customer that moves out to the middle of nowhere and then complains about how you can’t get fiber.

“ Op here and my team is fine. They work in Dallas and Atlanta. I have 29 yrs, not 8 like some one here said so shut it. I have a right to complain you sl--eball. I am in a state with no hub so f you all”

So the team has been working in Dallas and Atlanta and you have been the only virtual employee for 8 years? Yeah they are glad you are gone. They had a right to complain.

Moving forward, hitting the 5-year mark at T is a more realistic goal.

Everyone not in a hub in mass markets is impacted. We all received the same letter. This has nothing to do with your age. The work moved it su-ks. Blaming it on your age is really ignorant when everyone else young and old has to make the same choice. I choose not to move you can too or move but stop acting like you are a targeted impact.

When I got laid off earlier this month, they actually gave me a document, which I guess is supposed to serve as a proof that they're not discriminating against anyone based on age. It included a list of persons from my team who also got surplussed, and their age. I'm assuming it's meant to show they're laying off people of all ages, not just old or young. They were also careful to protect everyone's identity by not including any names, but they included our positions, so it was instantly clear who was who:) Not that anyone cares.

You are being targeted because of the headcount in your specific organization. They feel they can spare a few. Other groups where they need every last person I bet they’ll be more flexible

It’s not a “target” or personal unless you make it be.

Sorry, but because Stink is such a raging sc-mbag, your situation is not a layoff and therefore not subject to any sort of protections.

You were not fired or laid off. By choosing to not relocate you have effectively voluntarily resigned, and so you can't claim illegal termination.

Oh, make no mistake, you actually were targeted, you were laid off, and it was intentional, but by not being a layoff and instead being a voluntary relocation, T has skeezed it's way out of any legal obligation to you beyond ensuring you have a job upon relocating.

Because underhanded sl--eball tactics like this are what T and Stink do best.

Is it legal to ask you to move to different state work location, and not paying relocation fee to you ?

It is not illegal. It is a right to work decision. You can quit anytime they can fire you anytime. Get out from under your rock.

If younger people are also getting these letters you will have a hard time proving age discrimination. Understandable to be upset but the age angle here is very tiresome.
