Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I often wonder why Managers don’t use their power, influence and contacts to take a strong stand against Charlie & Co.

Charlie states he is “transforming our institution while supporting our customers, employees, and the communities we serve”, but you know nothing could be further from the truth. Managers are privy to the e-mails, meetings and plans which prove the double-talk and underhanded agenda on Charlie’s part.

Managers know that Charlie’s cost-cutting metrics are creating pressure which force employees to cut corners. Manages are aware our compliance and oversight micro- focuses on surface-level procedures, and hasn’t stopped the deeply entrenched and profitable wrongdoing.

You are seeing it all: misleading statements and promises, conflicting interests, dismantling important business lines, cheapening products and services behind the scenes, a revolving door of senior leaders, failure to lead from the top with ethics and honor.

I get that Managers are worried about supporting your families too, but could your managerial discretion be viewed as culpability?? Managers have been fined and barred from the industry for “failure to adequately perform their duties and responsibilities”. See Hope Hardison, Michael Loughlin, James Strother, Claudia Russ Anderson, David Julian and others.

Managers are paying the price for Charlie’s reckless decisions disrupting your ability to properly manage your departments. Managers are seeing your abilities limited, your projects scrapped, your input disregarded, and your positions diminished. Managers are having to deal with the consequences of your loyal top performers being laid off. How is it to watch the trust you’ve worked so hard to build with your teams intentionally eroded?

Are you placing your trust in a CEO who shows a propensity for ruthless cost-cutting, eliminating valuable experienced employees, putting his own interests above all others, and blaming everyone but himself ??? Are you hoping the CEO who is disrespectful, disloyal and inconsiderate won’t eventually aim his arrow at you??

Have you lost the strength, confidence, integrity, accountability and leadership skills which helped you to achieve your success in the first place??

Don’t you want to wipe that smirk off his face??

This bank needs mature managers and directors who are not afraid to challenge Charlie and his new Sycophants. If you won’t do it for yourself, then do it for your employees who depend on you, do it for our customers who entrust us with their money, do it for our shareholders who believe the bs, and do it because it’s the right thing to do.

Wait? Managers are actually suppose personally care and look out for their employees? I only saw that once in my time in Corp America....and my manager ended up having a serious nervous breakdown and had to quit.....

That explains why we’re a repeat offender. People who are willing to sell their soul for the big bucks in managerial positions.

Spoken like a true non-manager. Would you risk your six figure job for that? Some of the stuff is not easy to deal with, but you still get paid and some folks get paid very well. A lot of folks get paid well because they towed the line and didn't complain all the time. You are free to choose your own path.

Do not do what @kvc+1nGaac6O said. The ethicsline is not there to help you just as HR is not there for you either.

They are there for the company (sorry firm) to get ahead of lawsuits at best and at worst actively delay a contact to regulators or other bodies such as the EEOC who have rules around how soon you need to report something (for instance EEOC is 180 days from the date the discrimination took place)

Most managers "drink the koolaid" and force it down our throats. Mine does, and its just sickening......
Tho mgrs probably make decent $ and going to ride along until it ends.

Companies are a dictatorship not a democracy. You work for Putin not the US.

"Embrace candor" is absolutely not about the people who have to hear the candid messages. They want no part of that side.

Use the ethicsline- it is anonymous. If there’s enough legit complaints/concerns raised that can point to some specific proof of things that can be shown it can’t be ignored. Especially if there’s a theme of muiltiple allegations of similar topics.

OP is either just out college or incredibly naive about the reality of business.

As a former Manager and now IC by choice, you either get on board with the prescribed narrative or you will find - or be shown the door.

This WF executive regime is not receptive to challenge or honest feedback.

Because they too can be replaced as quickly as an employee. No one is safe. The rule is get on board or get out.
