Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The Current RTO Process is Unsustainable

Although I don't agree with "RTO" on general principles, I do understand why some companies are asking employees to return to the office. However, the way AT&T is going about it is ridiculous.

Employees who are expected to work in the office full time should have designated areas to sit and do their work. They should have the monitors and equipment that they need. They should not have to lug these items from home on a daily basis. They should not have to rely upon a broken "reservation system". The current system is unsustainable, and in no universe that I am aware of, increase productivity. If people need to collaborate, the office situation should facilitate that. Randomly sitting next to different people who have no relationship to the work you are doing is not going to provide any meaningful collaboration. Anyone disagreeing with this... show me the data that says otherwise.

AT&T cannot attract new talent when operating under this process. Can you imagine bringing someone in for an interview and having them take note of this fiasco?

We've all heard it said that this isn't really about RTO anyway... it's about getting rid of people. Wouldn't it be kinder and quicker and in the long wrong, more productive, to just lay them off?

Whoever hatched this plan is seriously lacking even basic management skills.

RTO has proven that many employees are in a different station of life.

The monitors that are AT&T assets should stay at the office. Buy your own for home!

They’re shoulder to shoulder in Alpharetta today.

This must not be the location where the folks on this board who said “I will never go back in them office “ live. BTW, I have not heard of anyone that was required to return on 7/10 say they are disregarding the mandate and continuing to WFH. If you are, it is no secret to your manager so certainly no reason to keep it a secret here, let us know who you are..

Here in our office we still have broken monitors and broken chairs and desk tops which do not raise or lower in the office? Otherwise all great.

Really, lugging a monitor to work everyday. I call BS. Tell me what building you are in and we will see why there is no hardware there or better yet let your manager know and he / she should get the issue resolved for you.

Broken reservation system?

Been working fine for many of us. What is broke?

The reservation system is a complete joke. I wouldn't be complaining so much if we just had assigned cubes but they don't have enough space. The problem is that they know it's bad and they won't do anything to fix it. They want us to be miserable.

Work smarter, do the bare minimum and go home. No need to take this anywhere else but collect your paycheck. I agree with you though, could have been done in a less nasty way, but thats T's way, just nasty and uncivilized.

You missed the broad side of the barn. Moving roles 2-3 states away is where RTO saves $ for att and Stankey has a shot at avoiding the newspapers.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I’ve been much less productive the last two months while this has been happening.
