How can someone get a mid year raise? Are they possible in this day and age?

My experience as well. It is possible, but there needs to be more to the story than "Mary wants more money", and the chain of command needs to be unwilling to lose the employee without a fight because they'll have to justify it.
Sure, not easy though. A promotion is not required either.
Slightly different question but related. Can you apply for a different role if you have NOT completed one year in your current position?
I’ve heard of two ways people get raises mid-year:
- Apply for a new role that is a promotion and get the job.
- Get an external offer and maybe Wells Fargo will match if your boss really doesn’t want to lose you.
That’s really it.
Depends who you know.
Maybe with an off cycle promotion and those are extremely hard to get these days.
I have done it, so it is possible. Not easy though, these off-cycle promotions are tough. I had to go two up for approval.
Not possible….unless you get promoted and someone goes to bat for you.
