Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

This better be a joke

I've spent months of aimlessly wandering through - what seems to be - a desolate job market, desperately hoping for a glimmer of decent prospects to come my way. I have found nothing. Absolutely nothing. Do I really have to settle for a pathetic excuse for a job if I want to leave Honeyhell? Is that where we're at right now?

There are plenty of jobs. But you must be willing to move.
Mobility is mandatory in the modern US economy. Otherwise, have someone review your resume and LinkedIn profiles. For example, I don't care if you have 20 years of experience, if your resume is longer than 1 page, 90% of managers will not read it.

I haven't found anything either and have been looking for three months. I mean, I do have a verbal offer but nothing concrete yet. I will do whatever it takes to get out and will keep trying.

If OP is "aimlessly wandering through" the job market, I'm not surprised that there have been no positive results. I agree it sounds like a typical Honeywell executive.

In my experience HON has a knack of trapping employees. Offer just enough salary to be competitive, while also using aging technology and being slow to adapt to changes that other companies are making much faster. After a few years your knowledge is not as valuable on the open market and you can't even find a matching salary. Your value can become very dependent on HON and the trap gets worse every year.

A lot of deadwood in these corporate has-beens -- process junkies, paper pushers, political game-players and the like. Much like the civil service in that respect. When eventually expelled from this time warp most terminees find themselves unwanted.

Depends on his location too. There are countries that are experiencing quite significant industrial drop now.. some are even talking about de-indutrialization. Germany for example.

I am going to be blunt. Honeywell has employed people in the last 3-4 years that were totally unqualified and had no right to work for even a small local firm let alone a global engineering corporation. It has been disgusting and insulting to have to work with colleagues that had no industry background, recognisable qualifications or any competence. Somehow the insane system of Honeywell has retained and even protected these clowns. So yeah, it would not surpise me one little bit that there employees of Honeywell that can not find work elsewhere, this is their peak, hiding or grifting amongst the sh1tshow.

It’s a great job market. Maybe you are looking too narrowly, but at over 55, I found a great full time remote engineering job w/o even trying.

I think Honeywell wants to discourage their moneymakers from leaving while they try to identify the useless for removal. They may be trying to sell various units while retaining enough talent to make these units somewhat valuable. Honeywell does have a customer deficit to overcome in selling these units. Given Honeywell's obvious disdain for customers, that's a steep ask either way.

If the op isn't an HR troll, which I seriously doubt, the job market isn't "desolate". All you have to do is take a look at LinkedIn and the job boards. This stinks of someone in HR trying to tell people that there isn't anything outside of Honeywell. That's a bunch of sewage and a very heavy load.

I guess it depends what your discipline is but in engineering I was able to find work within a month of layoff with a number of options all better than the job I had. It really angered me actually because my life could have been so much better earlier if I had not been so lazy.
However I do not have kids and I am not geography tied though so I guess that makes a huge difference. If I was tied to a small commute radius it would have been harder but even if I stayed in my city I still had immediate options. The current job market is not the worst I have seen by a long way but I think heading into next year it could get bad. I would say keep hunting and trying, there is so so much better out there and don't be fooled by initial salary, I earn slighly less base pay but with a great medical plan, stock bonuses, employee schemes, 401K match etc etc I am a lot better off.

OP,
This reads like an HR post trying to sow doubt in those that are looking to leave Honeywell. From my point of view, the job market is down just a little bit, but is still quite robust. I am an engineer and my Linkedin account is blowing up and has been for a several years. I'm not leaving due to many want me to relocate or travel more than I am willing to. I also don't want to move to another company and have to rebuild my reputation again. I still think this is an HR post.
